1944 Toddler’s Lace Dress with Puffed Sleeves #C195

SIZE: 
2 & 3. 
Directions are for size 2 with changes for size 3 in brackets.

MATERIALS: 
Clark’s ONT “Brilliant”, 16 [18] balls
#6 & #10 Steel Crochet Hook
8 Buttons                  
1 yd Velvet Ribbon, ¾” wide

MEASUREMENTS: 
Shoulder to bottom of skirt:  15” [16”]
Width at hem: 46” [50”]

GAUGE: 
[Bodice]  4 groups with 3 ch-4 loops between = 1 ½”
[Skirt]      2 groups = 1”

BODICE: 
With #10 hook make chain 25” [bout 13 chs to 1”].

1ST ROW:  Sc in 9th ch from hook, dc in next ch, sc in next ch, * ch 4, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch, dc in next ch, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across until there are 50 [53] loops on row.  Cut off rem chain.  Ch 5, turn.

2ND ROW:  * In next loop make sc, dc & sc, ch 4.  Rep from * across, end with sc, dc & sc in last loop.  Ch 5, turn. 

Rep 2nd row until piece measures 1 ½”. 

Now work across half of back as follows:  Ch 5, turn & work across until there are 12 [13] loops. 

Ch 5, turn & work over these loops only until piece measures 6” in all.  Fasten off. 

For front, sk 1 loop, attach thread in next loop, ch 5, in next loop make sc, dc & sc, ch 4 & continue across until there are in all for front 22 [23] loops. 

Ch 5, turn & work over these loops only until piece measures 4 ½” in all.

TO SHAPE NECK: 
1ST ROW:  Now work across 10 loops.  Turn.

2ND ROW:  Sl st to center of 1st loop, ch 4 & cont in pat across.  Ch 5, turn.

3RD ROW:  Work across to last loop, do not work in last loop.  Turn. 

Rep 2nd & 3rd rows once more [6 loops rem]. 

Work straight until piece measures 6” in all.  Fasten off.

For other side of front, sk 1 [2] loops, attach thread in next loop & work rem 10 loops to correspond.  Fasten off.

For other half of back, sk 1 loop, attach thread in next loop, ch 5, in next loop make sc, dc & sc, ch 4 & work rem 12 [13] loops to correspond with other half of back.  Fasten off. 

Sew up shoulder seams.

SKIRT: 
Attach thread in 1st sp on opposite side of foundation ch on Bodice & with #6 hook, work as follows:

1ST ROW:  Ch 3, dc in same place where thread was attached, * ch 4, in loop formed by ch-3 & dc make 3 dc [group made], sc in base of next dc, ch 3, dc in next sp, ch 4 & complete group as before, sc in same sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 4 & complete group as before, sc in base of next dc, ch 3, dc in next sp.  Rep from * across.  Ch 8, turn.

2ND ROW:  * Dc in next ch-4 loop, ch 4 & complete group, sc in same ch 4 loop, ch 3.  Rep from * across.  Ch 8, turn. 

Rep 2nd row 2 more times. 

Hereafter work is done in rnds.  Join last sc of each rnd with sl st in 5th st of last ch-8 turning ch.  Ch 8, turn. 

Work as for 2nd row, joining at center back as described, until piece measures from top of shoulder 15” [16”].  Join & fasten off.

SLEEVES: 
Starting at lower edge [with #10 hook] ch 95 [to measure about 7 ½”].

1ST & 2ND ROWS:  Same as 1st & 2nd rows of Bodice [15 loops].  Ch 5, turn.

3RD ROW:  [In next loop make sc, dc & sc, ch 4] 4 times, [sc in next loop, ch 4, sc in same loop, ch 4] 7 times; in next loop make sc, dc & sc, complete row in pat [22 loops].  Ch 5, turn. 
Rep 2nd row until piece measure 1”.  Turn.

TO SHAPE TOP: 
1ST - 4TH ROWS:  Sl st to center of 1st loop, ch 4 & work in pat across to last loop, do not work in last loop [14 loops rem]. 

Work straight until piece measures 5 ½” up center.  Fasten off. 

Attach thread at neck edge & work 2 rows of sc along neck edge, holding in to fit. 

Work a row of sc along back opening. 

On next row work 8 ch-4 button loops along right back. 

Sew on buttons to correspond with button loops. 

Sew sleeve seams & sew sleeves in, gathering extra fullness of sleeves across top 4” at each shoulder. 

Press through damp cloth. 

Tie ribbon around at waistline.
