Free Pattern - 1943 Town & Country Hat #379

1943 Town & Country Hat #379
 MATERIALS: 
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls any color
#6 Bone Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 
3 dc = 1”;    
2 rows = 1 1/8”

Wind each ball of thread in half to make 4 threads.

Use 4 threads throughout entire hat.

CROWN: 
Starting at tip of Crown, ch 4.  Join with sl st to form a ring.

1ST RND:  Ch 3, 10 dc in ring.  Do not join rnds.

2ND RND:  2 Dc in 3rd ch of 1st ch-3, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc.  Rep from * around [17 dc].

3RD & 4TH RNDS:  * 2 Dc in next dc, dc in next dc.  Rep from * around [39 dc at end of 4th rnd].

5TH RND:  Dc in each dc around.

6TH RND:  Dc in each dc around to within last dc, 3 dc in last dc [these 3 dc indicate center back of cap].

7TH RND:  Dc in each dc to within center dc of 3 dc-group, 3 dc in center dc, dc in last dc.

8TH TO 13TH RNDS:  Dc in each dc to within center dc of 3 dc-group, 3 dc in center dc of 3 dc-group, dc in each dc to end of rnd.  

On 13th rnd, end with 3 dc-group, then make dc in next dc, sc in next 2 dc.

BRIM: 
1ST ROW:  * Ch 3, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc.  Rep from * to within 2 dc preceding 3 dc-group.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND TO 5TH ROWS:  Sc in 1st sc, * ch 3, sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

6TH ROW:  2 Sc in 1st sc, * ch 3, 2 sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

7TH, 8TH & 9TH ROWS:  Sc in each of first 2 sc, * ch 3, sc in each of next 2 sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn. 

Fasten off at end of 9th row. 

Turn the front of Brim back against Crown. 

Fold corners of back of Brim against Crown & tack in place. 

Steam & press.
