Free Pattern - 1940s Town Club Hat #131

1940s Town Club Hat #131

MATERIALS: 
Dritz, Belastraw Art No. 110, 2 tubes
Dritz, Metallic Yarn Art No. 114, 2 tubes
Dritz steel crochet hook No. 1

GAUGE: 
5 sts make 1 inch

CROWN: 
With Belastraw ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. 

1st rnd:  Ch 1, in ring make 3 sc, 3 hdc and 10 dc. 

Mark last st of each rnd.  Drop Belastraw.

2nd rnd:  Attach Metallic yarn in st st of last rnd, ch 1, sc where yarn was attached, * insert hook in center of piece and pull loop through [long loop], insert hook in next st and pull loop through, pull same loop through long loop, yo, through remaining 2 loops on hook sc in next st.  Repeat from * [8 long sts]. 

Drop Metallic yarn, pick up Belastraw.

3rd rnd:  Make 3 dc in 1st sc, 2 dc in each remaining sc [33 dc]. 

Drop Belastraw.

4th and all even rnds:  Pick up Metallic yarn, * sc in 2 dc, insert hook in base of next dc and pull long loop through, insert hook in top of same dc and pull loop through, pull same loop through long loop, yo, through remaining 2 loops on hook.  Repeat from *. 

There are 1/3 as many sts as on last rnd.

5th rnd:  With Belastraw, work dc in each sc increasing 15 dc evenly around--to inc make 2 dc in 1 sc [48dc].

7th rnd:  Dc around increasing 12 dc [60dc].

9th and 11th rnds:  Dc in each sc [60 dc].

13th, 15th and 17th rnds:  Dc around increasing 3 dc on each rnd.  There are 69 dc on 17th rnd.

19th and 21st rnds:  Dc in each sc [69 dc].

23rd rnd:  Dc around increasing 3 dc [72 dc].

25th rnd:  Dc in each sc [72 dc].

27th rnd:  Dc around increasing 3 dc [73 dc].

29th and 31st rnds:  Dc around increasing 6 dc on each rnd. 

There are 87 dc on 31st rnd.

33rd and 35th rnds:  Dc around increasingly 9 dc on each rnd. 

There are 105 dc on 35th rnd.

36th rnd:  Repeat 4th rnd [35 long sts]. 

End off metallic yarn. 

Work 8 rnds of sc being careful not to tighten up on gauge.

BRIM: 
1st rnd:  * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc.  Repeat from *.  Join with sl st in 1st sc of rnd.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd rnd:  Sc in each sc.  Join, ch 1, turn. 

Repeat 2nd rnd 12 more times.  End off.

FINISHING:
Drape crown as illustrated or to suit individual taste. 

Brush with sizing and allow to dry. 

Roll or turn brim up.
