Vintage Lydia Chic Classic Cloche #621

Quick & easy to crochet this delightful, wide-brimmed, cloche of rich brown corde threaded with lush brown velvet ribbon…a fashionable wardrobe favorite!

Materials:

Hiawatha Super Corde Art #38, 2 tubes

Hiawatha Hat Lining #6980

#1 Steel Crochet Hook

2 yds Velvet Ribbon 1” wide

GAUGE: 
6 sc = 1”;      1 cross st rnd = 1”

TOP:  

Ch 3, sl st in 1^st ch, forming rind.

1^ST RND:  6 Sc in rind.

2^ND RND:  2 Sc in each st.  Mark beg of rnds.

3^RD RND:  * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * around [6 incs].

Inc 6 sts each rnd [not directly over prev incs] until there are 84 sts & piece is 4 ½” across.  Sl st in next st.

NEXT RND:  Thru back lps only, sc in each st.  Sl st in next st.

PATTERN:  

1^ST RND:  Ch 4, sk 1 st, thru both lps work trc in next st, ch 5, trc in top of prev trc --starting cross st made-- * yo 4 times, insert hk in next st & draw lp thru, [over & thru 2 lps] twice; yo twice, sk 1 st, draw up lp in next st, [over & thru 2 lps] 6 times; ch 1, trc in center of cross st.  Rep from * around [28 cross sts].  Sl st in 4^th st of ch-5.

2^ND RND:  * 2 Sc in next sp, sk next trc, sc bet cross sts.  Rep from * around [84 sc].

INC RND:  * Sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * to 104 sts.  Sl st in next st.  

Insert marker to indicate center back.

BRIM:  

1^ST & 2^ND RNDS:  Sc in each st.  Do not end off  but drop corde.

1^ST SHORT ROW:  Join 2^nd tube of corde in 29^th st after marker, sc in each st to 29^th st before marker.  Sl st in next st.  End off.  Pick up lp from 1^st tube.

3^RD RND:  Sc in each of next 32 sts, 2 sc in next st, * sc in each of next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * 4 more times; sc in each st to center back [6 incs--110 sts].  Drop corde.

2^ND SHORT ROW:  Join 2^nd tube in 26^th st after marker, sc in each st to 26^th st before marker.  Sl st in next st.  End off.   Pick up at center back.

4^TH RND:  Sc, inc 6 sts across front section [116 sts].  Drop corde. 

3^RD SHORT ROW:  Join in 23^rd st after marker, sc in each st to 23^rd st before marker.  Sl st & end off.

5^TH RND:  Rep 4^th rnd [122 sts].  Drop corde.

4^TH SHORT ROW:  Join in 20^th st after marker, sc in each st to 20^th st before marker.  Sl st & end off.

6^TH RND:  Sc, inc 6 sts across front section. 

Rep 6^th rnd twice more [140 sts]. 

Rep 4 short rows, working 1 rnd sc even bet each short row [140 sts].

Work sc even for 2”.  End off.

FINISHING:  Insert lining. 

Turn up 1” for facing & sew.

Tack last rnd of crown to edge of lining.

Weave velvet ribbon thru cross st rnd.  Trim as shown.
