Vintage 1944 Field of
Roses Crochet Runner
A
clever woman very quickly & easily will crochet this exquisite table runner,which
will become a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!
MATERIALS:
J
& P Coats or Clarks ONT Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 20, Small
Ball: J & P Coats 4 balls of White, or Clarks ONT 6 balls of White
Big
Ball: J & P Coats 3 balls of White
#8
or #9 Steel Crochet Hook
MEASUREMENTS:
Runner
measures approx 14” x 38 ½”
Each
motif measures approx 3 ½” in diameter.
FIRST
MOTIF:
Start
at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form
ring.
1ST
RND: Ch 1, work 12 sc in ring. Join with sl st in 1st sc.
2ND
RND: Ch 5 (to count as 1 dc & ch 2),
* dc in next sc, ch 2. Rep from *
around, join last ch-2 with sl st in 3rd st of starting ch-5 (12 sps).
3RD
RND: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st,
* ch 3, sc in next dc, ch 3, 3 dc in next dc.
Rep from * around. Join.
4TH
RND: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, *
dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in next sc, ch 4, 2 dc in next
dc. Rep from * around. Join.
5TH
RND: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, *
ch 7, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch 7, sc in next dc. Rep from * around, end with ch 3, tr in 1st
sc.
6TH
RND: Ch 3, 2 dc in top of tr just made,
* ch 10, 3 dc in center st of next ch-7.
Rep from * around. Join.
7TH
RND: Sl st in next 2 dc, * in next lp
make (4 sc, ch 4) 3 times & 4 sc.
Rep from * around. Join &
break off.
SECOND
MOTIF:
Work
same as for First Motif until 6th rnd is completed.
7TH
RND: Sl st in next 2 dc, * in next lp
make 4 sc, ch 4 & 4 sc; ch 2, sl st in corresponding ch-4 lp on First
Motif, ch 2, in same lp on Second Motif make 4 sc, ch 4 & 4 sc. Rep from * once more. Complete rnd with no more joins.
Make
4 x 11 motifs, join them as First Motif was joined to Second Motif & leave
one large lp free bet joins.
FILL-IN-MOTIF:
Attach
thread in center ch-4 lp of any large lp bet joins.
1ST
RND: Ch 3, 2 dc where thread was
attached, * ch 5, 3 dc in center ch-4 lp of next large lp. Rep from * 2 more times; ch 5, sl st in 3rd
st of starting ch-3.
2ND
RND: In next ch-5 lp make 4 sc, ch 5
& 4 sc, * 4 sc in next lp, ch 2, sl st in last ch-5 lp, ch 2, 4 sc in same
lp as last sc. Rep from * around. Join & break off.
Press
thru damp cloth.
Starch
lightly & press.
