Vintage Swan Bathroom Set

RUG

SIZE: 26" x 37"

MATERIALS: 

American Thread Co, Aunt Lydia's Heavy Rug Yarn
10 - 70 yd skeins Light Blue
5 - 70 yd skeins National Blue
2 - 70 yd skeins White
1 - 70 yd skein Dark Green
Aluminum Crochet Hook Size J

GAUGE: 

5 sts = 2"
5 rows = 2"

NOTE: 

Rug is worked with double strand thru out.
With National Blue ch 91, 1 sc in 2nd st from hk & in each rem st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows. 

2nd ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 

Rep 2nd row 9 times. 

12th ROW: 1 sc in each of next 28 sc, drop National Blue, attach Light Blue (NOTE: when changing colors always complete last half of last st worked with next color), 1 sc in each of next 35 sc, drop Light Blue, with National Blue 1 sc in each rem sc. 

13th ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of next 26 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 38 sc, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 26 sc.

14th ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of next 25 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 40 sc, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 25 sc. 

15th ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of next 24 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 43 sc, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 23 sc. 

16th ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of next 21 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 46 sc, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 23 sc. 

17th ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of next 23 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 47 sc, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 20 sc.

8th ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of the 1st 19 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 49 sc, with Na­tional Blue 1 sc in each of next 22 sc, cut National Blue. 

NEXT 44 ROWS: With Light Blue work 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn at end of last row.

FINISHING:Embroider rug in cross st ac­cording to chart.

EDGE: 

With single strand of yarn work along side edge, attach National Blue in side of 1st row of National Blue, ch 2, dc in same space, * sk 1 row, sl st in side of next row, ch 2, dc in same sp, rep from * to corner, work along long edge ch 2, dc in same sp, * sk 1 st, sl st in next st, ch 2, dc in same space, rep from * to next corner, cont all around in same manner work National Blue over National Blue & Light Blue over Light Blue, cut yarn.

TISSUE TOPPER:

CROWN: 
With Light Blue ch 3, join to form ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join in 3rd st of ch.


2nd RND: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in same sp, 2 dc in each rem dc, join. 

3rd RND: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, * 1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * all around, join in 3rd st of ch (36 dc). 

4th RND: Work in dc inc in every 9th st (40 dc), join.

5th RND: Ch 1, 1 sc in each dc, join. 

6th RND: Ch 3, work in back lp of sts only 1 dc in each sc, join. 

NEXT 6 RNDS: Work in both lps, ch 3, 1 dc in each st, join each rnd, cut yarn at end of last rnd. 

BRIM: 13th RND: Attach National Blue in join, work in back lp of sts, 2 sc in same space, 1 sc in next dc, * 2 sc in next dc, sc in next dc, rep from * all around, join.
14th RND: Work in both lps, ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, join. 

15th RND: Work in back lp of sts, sl st in each sc, cut yarn.
SWAN: 

With White ch 9, 1 sc in 2nd st from hk & in each rem st of ch inc 1 sc at end of ch (9 sc), ch 3, turn. 

2nd ROW: Sc in 2nd st from hk, sc in next st of ch, 1 sc in each rem sc, inc 1 sc at end of row, ch 1 to turn rem rows. 

3rd ROW: Work in sc inc 1 sc at beg & end of row. 

START NECK SHAP­ING: 1st ROW: Pull up lp in each of next 2 sts, yo & pull thru all lps at 1 time (dec), sl st in next st, ch 1, turn. 

2nd ROW: Sl st in sl st, pull up lp in same st  next st, yo & pull thru all lps at 1 time. 

3rd ROW: Pull up lp in 1st st & in sl st, yo & pull thru all lps at 1 time, sl st in sl st. 

4th  5th ROWS: Rep 2nd  & 3rd rows of neck. 

6th ROW: 1 sc in each st. 

7th ROW: Sl st in 1st st, sc in next sc. 

8th ROW: Sc in sc, sl st in sl st, ch 4, turn. 

9th ROW: 1 sc in 2nd st from hk & in each of next 2 sts of ch, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st. 

10th ROW: Sk 1st st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, cut yarn.
TAIL SECTION: 

Sk 1 st of body section (after neck), attach yarn in next st, 1 sc in each remaining sc, ch 2, turn. 

NEXT ROW: 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sc, sl st in next 3 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, sl st in next 2 sc, cut yarn. 
Work another section in same manner.

LEAVES:With Dark Green ch 5, sc in 2nd st from hk, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts of ch, ch 2, sl st in next st, ch 4, sl st in 3rd st from hk for picot, ch 5, sc in 2nd st from hk, dc in next st of ch, ch 2, sl st in next st, * ch 4, sl st in 3rd st from hk for picot, rep from * twice, ch 5, sc in 2nd st from hk, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 4, sc in 2nd st from hk, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, then work 3 ch-3 picots with ch 1 bet each picot, ch 5, sc in 2nd st from hk, dc in next st of ch, ch 2, sl st in next st, ch 1, ch-3 picot, ch 1, cut yarn leave length for sewing.
FINISHING: 

Sew sections of swan tog leav­ing lower edges free. 
Fill with kapok. 
Sew swan to topper along the free edges. 
Place leaves around swan and sew in place as illustrated.

SEAT COVER:

Beg at top of cover with Light Blue, ch 33. 

1st ROW: 1 sc in 2nd st from hk & in each rem st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows. 

2nd ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 

3rd ROW: Work in sc, inc 1 sc at beg & end of row. 

4th & 5 ROWS: 1 sc in each sc. 

6th ROW: Rep 3rd row. 

7th to 10th ROWS: 1 sc in each sc. 

11th ROW: Rep 3rd row. 

12th to 17th ROWS: 1 sc in each sc. 

18th ROW: Rep 3rd row. 

19th to 23th ROWS: 1 sc in each sc. 

29th & 30th ROWS: Dec 1 st each side in each row (to dec - insert hk in st, pull lp thru, insert in next st, pull lp thru, yo & work off all lps at 1 time), drop Light Blue (36 sts). 

Attach National Blue (when changing color always complete last half of last st worked with new color), ch 1, turn, cut Light Blue. 

31st ROW: 1 sc in each of 1st 11 sc, drop National Blue, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 15 sts, drop Light Blue, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 10 sc. 

32nd ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of 1st 11 sts, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 13 sc, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 12 sts. 

33rd ROW: With National Blue 1 sc in each of 1st 13 sc, with Light Blue 1 sc in each of next 11 sc, cut Light Blue, with National Blue 1 sc in each of next 12 sc. 

34th ROW: Dec 1 st at beg & end of row. 

35th & 36th ROWS: 1 sc in each st.

NEXT 3 ROWS: Rep 34th, 35th & 36th rows. 

40th ROW: Rep 34th row. 

41st ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 

NEXT 2 ROWS: Rep last 2 rows. 

44th, 45th & 46th ROWS: Rep 34th row. 

47th & 48th ROWS: Dec 2 sts at beg & end of each row, cut yarn. 

BORDER: 

Work Light Blue over Light Blue &  National Blue over National Blue as fol­lows:
1st RND: Attach yarn in left cor­ner at top, work in sc all around, work 3 sc in each of 2 corners, place sc close enough to keep work flat, join in 1st sc.


2nd RND: 1 sc in each sc, join. 

3rd RND: Work in sc, inc 6 sts evenly spaced around curved edge. 

4th ROW: Do not work across straight edge, work in back lp of sts only, inc 6 sts evenly spaced around curved edge, cut yarn, do not turn. 

5th ROW: Attach yarn in 1st sc, work thru back lp of sts only, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * to opposite corner, ch 1, turn. 

6th & 7th ROWS: Sc in 1st ch 1 sp, * ch 1, sc in next ch 1 sp, rep from * around curved edge to opposite corner, ch 1, turn, cut yarn at end of last row. 
With National Blue crochet ch about 1½ yds long & lace through last row of ch 1 sps.

FINISHING: 

Embroider swan &  leaves according to chart below.
