Vintage Loopy Color Block Bathroom Set

SIZE:
Finished Bath Mat:
18" x 28"
Lid Cover: 16" x 14"

MATERIALS:
Worsted-weight yarn Wintuk, (100% Acrilan Acrylic, 213 yards per 3 1/2 oz/100g skein) by Caron:
4 skeins #3239 Teal (Col A)
2 skeins #3159 Colonial Blue (Col B)
1 skein #3001 White (Col C)
1 card 3mm Rainbow Elastic #121 Dark Teal
Crochet Hooks Sizes I-9/5.5mm & F-5/3.75mm (or size needed to obtain Gauge.)
GAUGE:
10 sts = 4"/10cm
20 rows (10 rows of loops) = 6"/15cm with larger hook
To save time, take time to check your gauge.

NOTES:Each 2 rows of pattern forms 1 row of lps.
Turning ch counts as st.
Be sure to work in top of turning ch at end of row.
Confirm st count after each dc row.
Change colors as follows:
In last st before change to new color, work until 2 lps rem on hk.
With new color, yo & draw thru last 2 lps on hk.
These lid instructions are for lid 16" x 14"/40.5cm x 35.5cm with slight curve at top & bottom (see diagram on back).
There is 1"/2.5cm border around all edges, except back where hinges are located.
The border around edges will be gathered in with crocheted elastic for fit.

SPECIAL STITCHES:
dec: decrease - *yo, insert hk in next st & pull up lp, yo & draw thru 2 lps; rep from *, then yo & draw thru all 3 lps on hk.
inc: increase - work 2 sts into the same st.

LOOPY PATTERN:
1st Row: (WS) Start in 2nd st, *ch 7, sl st into back lp only of dc; rep from * across end ch 7, sl st into top of turning ch, turn.

2nd Row: (RS) Ch 3 (count as 1 dc), sk first st, work 1 dc into back lp only of each st across end with 1 dc into top of turning ch, turn. 

Rep 1st & 2nd Rows for pat.

BATH MAT:
With Col A & larger hk, ch 51. 

Dc into 4th ch from hk & in each ch across - 49 dc (count beg ch-3). 

Work in Loopy Pat for total of 46 rows of lps in following col sequence: 
  • 14 rows of lps Col A
  • 5 rows of lps Col B
  • 8 rows of lps Col C
  • 5 rows of lps Col B
  • 14 rows of lps Col A
  • Do not fasten off.

FINISHING:
With Col A, work 2 sc into each dc row along sides (92 sc), & 49 sc along each end, work 3 sc into each corner st; fasten off.

LID COVER:
See note at end of instructions, if your lid is different size. 

Work in Loopy Pat for total of 28 rows of lps in following col sequence, while following instructions for 1st - 57th Rows :
  • 9 rows of lps Col A
  • 3 rows of lps Col B
  • 4 rows of lps Col C
  • 3 rows of lps Col B
  • 9 rows of lps Col A

With Col A & larger hk, ch 35.

1ST ROW: Sc into 3rd ch from hk & in each ch across - 34 sc (count beg ch 2). 

Work following rows in Loopy Pat in col sequence.

2ND - 5TH: Work 2 rows of lps.

6TH - 11TH ROWS: Inc at each end of next 3 dc rows - 40 sts.

12TH - 29TH ROWS: Work even in Loopy Pat &col sequence until 9 more rows of lps have been compl - 14 rows of lps total.

30TH - 57TH ROWS: Dec 1 st at each end of next dc row, then every other dc row 3 more times - 32 dc, then every dc row 5 times - 22 dc. 

Cont working in Loopy Pat & col sequence until 28 rows of lps total have been compl; fasten off.
ELASTIC EDGING:
1ST RND: With smaller hk & elastic, sc around edges work 2 sc into each dc row along side edges & 1 sc into each st at top & bottom.

2ND RND: *Work 1 sc into each of next 2 sc, sk 1 sc; rep from * around.

3RD RND: Work 1 sc into each st around; fasten off.

If your Lid is different than Model:
If your lid is shorter, just add or subtract rows in col sections that are worked even. 

If it is wider or shaped differently, make your own schematic by laying piece of newspaper under closed lid & draw an outline around it. 

Add 1"/2.5cm border around all edges except back. 

Start lid cover as directed for beg ch & first 2 rows. 

Lay your work on your outline every few rows & shape your incs & decs as needed to match your drawing. 

Finish as above.
