Vintage Ring of Asters Doily

A clever woman very quickly & easily will crochet this exquisite doily…which will become a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!

MATERIALS:
J & P Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Art #A104, Size 30, 1 ball of White, or
Clark’s Big Ball Mercerized Crochet, Art #B 34, Size 30, 1 ball of White
#10 Steel Crochet Hook

MEASUREMENT:  
11 ½ ” diameter

Starting at Center, ch 10.  Join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND:  Ch 3, make 23 dc in ring.  Join to top of ch-3.

2ND RND:  Ch 4, * dc in next dc, ch 1.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-4 (24 sps).

3RD RND:  * Ch 4, make 4 tr in same place as sl st, sk next dc, sl st in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join to first sl st (12 points).

4TH RND:  Sl st to tip of first point, sc in same place as last sl st, (ch 7, sc in tip of next point) 11 times, ch 7.  Join.

5TH RND:  Ch 4, * (sk next ch, dc in next ch, ch 1) 3 times; dc in next sc, ch 1.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-4 (48 sps).

6TH RND:  Ch 3, * dc in next sp, dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

7TH RND:  Ch 5, * sk next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-5 (48 sps).

8TH RND:  Ch 4, tr in next dc, * ch 7, hold back on hk last lp of each tr, make tr in each of next 2 dc, yo & draw thru all lps on hk (joint tr made).  Rep from * around.  Join to top of ch-4 (24 joint tr).

9TH RND:  Ch 4, * in next lp make (dc, ch 1) 4 times; (dc in next joint tr, ch 1, in next lp make dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1) 5 times; dc in next joint tr, ch 1.  Rep from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4 (100 sps).

10TH & 11TH RNDS:  Rep 6th & 7th rnds (100 sps on 11th rnd).  Break off.

Now make motifs & join to Center as follows:
FIRST MOTIF: 
Work as for Center until 3 rnds have been completed.

4TH RND:  Sl st to tip of first point, sc in same place as last sl st, ch 3, with wrong side of Center facing, tr in any sp on last rnd of Center, ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Motif, (ch 3, sk next 2 sps on Center, sl st in next sp, ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Motif) twice; ch 3, with wrong side of Center facing, sk next 2 sps, tr in next sp, ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Motif, * ch 7, sc in tip of next point.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.

SECOND MOTIF: 
Work as for First Motif until 3 rnds have been completed.

4TH RND:  Sl st to tip of first point, sc in same place as last sl st, ch 3, sl st in first free lp on First Motif (following last joining), ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Second Motif, ch 3, tr in next free sp on Center, ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Second Motif, (ch 3, sk next 2 sps on Center, sl st in next sp, ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Second Motif) twice; ch 3, sk next 2 sps on Center, tr in next sp, ch 3, sc in tip of next point on Second Motif, ch 7, sc in tip of next point.  Complete rnd as for First Motif. 

Make 8 more Motifs, join them to prev motifs & to Center as Second Motif was joined. 

Join last Motif to First Motif.

Now work in rnds as follows:
1ST RND:  Attach thread to first free lp at left of any motif above join, ch 5, tr in next lp, * ch 7, hold back on hk last lp of each tr, make tr in same lp as last tr was made & in next lp, yo & draw thru all lps on hk (joint tr made) 4 times; ch 7, make joint dtr by making dtr in same lp as last tr was made & in first free lp on next motif, ch 7, make joint tr by making tr in same lp as last dtr was made & in next lp.  Rep from * around, end with joint dtr, ch 7, sl st in tip of first joint tr.

2ND RND:  Sl st to center of next lp, ch 9, * (dc in next joint tr, ch 5, dc in next lp, ch 5) twice; dc in next joint tr, ch 5, tr in next lp, ch 5, make joint dtr over next 2 lps, ch 5, tr in next lp, ch 5.  Rep from * around.  Join to 4th ch of ch-9.

3RD RND:  Ch 4, * in next sp make (dc, ch 1) twice; dc in next st, ch 1.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-4.

4TH RND:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next sp, dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

5TH RND:  Ch 5, * sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-5 (161 sps).

6TH & 7TH RNDS:  Sl st in next sp, * ch 5, dc in next sp.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-5.

8TH RND:  Sl st in next sp, sc in same sp, * ch 5, sc in next sp.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.

Starch lightly & press.
