Vintage Jacob’s Ladder Crochet Doily

SIZE:   
Approx 16 inches in diameter

Materials: 
J & P Coats or Clarks ONT Best Six Cord Mer­cerized Crochet, Size 30: Small Ball: J & P Coats - 3 balls of White, Ecru or any color,
OR
Clarks ONT - 3 balls of White or Ecru, or 4 balls of any color
#10 or #11 Steel Crochet Hook

Starting at center, ch 5.  Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd:  8 Sc in ring.  Sl st in 1st sc.

2nd rnd:  Ch 8, * trc in next sc, ch 4.  Rep from * around.  Sl st in 4th st of ch-8.

3rd rnd:  Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, * ch 4, in next trc make dc, ch 2 & dc.  Rep from * around, ending with ch 4, sl st in 3rd st of ch-5.

4th rnd:  Ch 6, * trc in next dc, ch 7, trc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around, ending with ch 7, sl st in 4th st of ch-6.

5th rnd:  Ch 5, * dc in next trc, in next sp make (ch 2, dc) 4 times; ch 2, dc in next trc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join (48 sps).

6th & 7th rnds:  Ch 5, * dc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

8th rnd:  Ch 6, * trc in next dc, ch 7, sk 1 dc, trc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around, ending with ch 7, sl st in 4th st of ch-6.

9th rnd:  Ch 5, * dc in next trc, ch 8, dc in next trc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

10th rnd:  Ch 6, * trc in next dc, 8 trc in next sp, trc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

11th rnd:  Ch 5, * dc in next trc, ch 10, sk 8 trc, dc in next trc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

12th rnd:  Ch 6, * trc in next dc, ch 11, trc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

13th rnd:  Ch 5, dc in next trc, * in next sp make (ch 2, dc) 5 times; (ch 2, dc in next trc) twice.  Rep from * around.  Join.

14th & 15th rnds:  Ch 5, * dc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

16th rnd:  Ch 6, * trc in next dc, ch 15, sk 5 dc, trc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join.

17th rnd:  Ch 5, * dc in next trc, in next sp make (ch 2, dc) 7 times; (ch 2, dc in next trc) twice.  Rep from * around.  Join.

18th & 19th rnds:  Make ch-2 sp over each ch-2 sp around.  Join.

20th rnd:  Ch 6, * trc in next sp, (ch 2, trc in next dc) twice; (ch 7, sk 2 dc, trc in next dc, ch 2, trc in next dc) 3 times; ch 7, sk 2 dc, trc in next dc, ch 2, trc in next dc, ch 2.  Rep from * around, ending with trc in last dc, ch 2, sl st in 4th st of ch-6.

21st rnd:  Ch 5, dc in next trc, (ch 2, dc in next trc) twice; * (ch 7, dc in next trc, ch 2, dc in next trc) 3 times; ch 7, dc in next trc; (ch 2, dc in next trc) 4 times.  Rep from * around.  Join.

22nd rnd:  Ch 6, (trc in next dc, ch 2) twice; in next dc make trc, ch 2 & trc; * ch 7, trc in next dc, ch 2, trc in next dc, (7 trc in next sp, trc in next dc, ch 2, trc in next dc) twice, ch 7; in next dc make trc, ch 2 & trc; (ch 2, trc in next dc) 3 times, ch 2; in next dc make trc, ch 2 & trc (this will be referred to as inc section).  Rep from * around.  Join.

23rd rnd:  Ch 5, dc in next trc, (ch 2, dc in next trc) 3 times; * ch 7, dc in next trc, ch 2, dc in next trc, (ch 7, sk 7 trc, dc in next trc, ch 2, dc in next trc) twice; ch 7, dc in next trc, (ch 2, dc in next trc) 6 times.  Rep from * around.  Join.

24th THRU 32nd rnds:  Work as for 22nd & 23rd rnds alternately, always making trc, ch 2 & trc in first & last dc of each inc section (17 trc on each inc section of 32nd rnd). 

Break off at end of 32nd rnd.

33rd rnd:  Attach thread to 1st trc on block section, sc in same place, * (2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, ch 10, sk 7 trc, sc in next trc) twice; 2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, ch 10, sc in next trc, 2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, ch 10, sk 2 tr, sc in next trc, 2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, ch 10, sk 2 trc, sc in next sp, 2 sc in next trc, sc in next sp, ch 10, sk 2 trc, sc in next trc, 2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, ch 10, sk 2 trc, sc in next trc, 2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, ch 10, sc in next trc.  Rep from * around.  Join last ch-10 to 1st sc made.

34th rnd:  Sk next sc, * sc in next sc, 15 sc in ch-10 lp, sk 2 sc.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.
