Vintage 1920s Star Spangled Crochet Tablecloth


A clever needlewoman will quickly crochet this elegant tablecloth in shades
of cream, gold & silver…A perfect decorative touch!

SIZE:   
Approx 56” x 56”

Materials: 
American Thread Co Puritan Star Spangled Crochet Cotton, Art 40:  42 Balls Gold & Silver Spangle
OR
Puritan Crochet Cotton, Art 40: 17 Balls White, Cream or Ecru
#7 Steel Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 
Each motif measures approx 1 ½” x 1 ½”. 
1,369 motifs, 37” x 37

MOTIF:
Ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 1, sc in ring, * ch 3, sc in same sp, rep from * 6 times, ch 3, join in 1st sc.

2nd Rnd:  Sl st into next lp, * ch 5, sc in next lp, rep from * 6 times, ch 2, dc in sl st (this brings thread in position for next rnd).

3rd Rnd:  Ch 3, sc over dc, * ch 9, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp, ch 5, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp, rep from * twice, ch 9, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp, ch 5, join in dc, cut thread.

Work 2nd motif joining it to 1st motif in last rnd as follows:  ch 3, sc over dc, * ch 4, join to center st of any ch 9 lp of 1st motif, ch 4, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp of 2nd motif, ch 2, join to center st of next ch 5 lp of 1st motif, ch 2, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp of 2nd motif, ch 4, join to center st of next ch 9 lp of 1st motif, ch 4, 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next lp of 2nd motif, finish motif same as 1st motif.

Join 3rd motif to 2nd motif & 4th motif to 1st & 3rd motifs in same manner.

Work 1,365 more motifs, & joining in same manner.

Edging:
Attach thread in any corner lp, 3 sc in same sp, ch 3, 3 sc in same sp, * ch 5, sl st in 3rd st from hk for picot, ch 2, 2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc in next lp, ch 5, sl st in 3rd st from hk for picot, ch 2, 2 sc, lp before joining, ch 3, 2 sc in lp after joining, rep from * across side to joining before next corner, ch 5, sl st in 3rd st from hk for picot, ch 2, 2 sc in ch 3, 2 sc in next lp, ch 5, sl st in 3rd st from hk for picot, ch 2, 3 sc, ch 3, 3 sc in corner lp, rep from 1st * all around ending to correspond, join, cut thread.
