Materials:

Bone Crochet Hook

yd each Buckram & Felt

yds Ribbon or Cord
Cardboard
[ or Plastic ]
Use 4 threads throughout.
Gauge:
4
sts = 1”;
4
rows = 1”
BAG:
Starting
at side, ch 63.
1st
row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& in each ch across.
2nd
to 52nd rows: Sc in each sc
across. Ch 1, turn. Break off at end of 52nd row.
Fold
Bag in half.
Attach
thread in the 8th sc from top.
Working
through both thicknesses, thus joining edges, make sc in each sc to fold. Break off.
Join
other side in same manner.
Line
bag with buckram & lining material.
Top [Make 2]:
Starting
at center, ch 16.
1st
rnd: Sc in 8th ch from hook
& in each ch across, ch 7. Do not
turn.
2nd
rnd: Working along opposite side of
starting chain, make sc in next 9 sts, sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in next 3 ch, sc
in next 2 ch, sc in next 9 sc, sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in next 3 ch, sc in next 2
ch [38 sc].
3rd
rnd: Sc in next 11 sc, 2 sc in next 6
sc, sc in next 13 sc, 2 sc in next 6 sc, sc in next 2 sc [50 sc].
4th
& 5th rnds: Sc in each sc
around. Sl st in next sc. Break off.
Using
top as a pattern, cut out 2 cardboard pieces & 2 felt pieces.
Line
each top with felt, inserting cardboard piece between.
Cut
holes in cardboard & felt to correspond with holes in top.
Mark
the top center at each side of bag & make inverted pleats on each side of
center, making pleats deep enough so that top of bag measures same as long side
of top.
Sew
pleats in place.
Sew
pleated edges to a long side of top.
Cut
ribbon into lengths of 31” & 41”.
Draw
ribbon through the 4 holes in top, drawing each ribbon from opposite
sides.
Tie
longer ribbon in a bow.
Sew
ends of shorter ribbon together.
