Vintage Cropped Raglan Jacket with Cable Accents #1127

Directions are for Size 10.
Changes for Sizes 12, 14 & 16 are in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Columbia Minerva Knitting Worsted, 4 oz Skein - 4[4-4-5] Skeins 
or
Columbia Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted, 2 or 4 oz Skein - 16[18-20-22] ozs
1 Pair Boye Knitting Needles #8
1 Boye Cable Needle
1 Boye Steel Crochet Hook #1
1 Hiawatha Blunt End Tapestry Needle

GAUGE:
Ribbing Pattern:
6 sts = 1”
6 rows = 1”

CABLE PATTERN FOR RAGLAN BANDS [18 sts]:
1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: P 2, k 2nd st thru back, then k 1st st for twist, p 1, sl next 4 sts onto cable needle & hold in back, k next 4 sts, then k 4 sts from cable needle for cable twist, p 1, twist next 2 sts, p 2. 

2ND ROW: K 2, p 2, k 1, p 8, k 1, p 2, k 2. 

3RD ROW: P 2, k 2, p 1, k 8, p 1, k 2, p 2. 

4TH ROW: Same as 2nd Row. 

5TH ROW: P 2, twist 2, p 1, k 8, p 1, twist 2, p 2. 

6TH ROW: Same as 2nd Row. 

7TH ROW: Same as 3rd Row. 

8TH ROW: Same as 2nd Row.

Rep these 8 rows for patt.

LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 14 sts for front border & facing.

Work in st st for 2¼”, end with p row.

Cast on 41[43-45-47] sts = 55[57-59-61] sts on needle.

Work in ribbing as follows:
1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: P 1, k 1 to last 14 sts, k 14. 

2ND ROW: P 14, then k 1, p 1 across row.

Rep these 2 rows until work meas 2¼” from cast-on sts. 

RAGLAN ARMHOLE:
1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: K 1, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, work to end of row. 

2ND ROW: Work in patt to last 2 sts, p 2. 

3RD ROW: K 1, sl 1, k 1, psso, work to end of row.

Re­p 2nd & 3rd Rows until 21[22-23-24] sts rem.

Rep 1st & 2nd Rows twice.

Bind off rem 17[18-19-20] sts.

Place markers for 6 buttons at front edge, have 1st marker ¾” above lower edge & 6th marker ¾” below neck.

LEFT FRONT BAND:
Cast on 5 sts, leave about 12” of yarn for casting on additional sts. 

1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: P 1, k 2, p 2. 

2ND ROW: K 2, p 2, k 1, cast on 2 sts with working yarn tog with left-over strand. 

3RD ROW: K 2, p 1, k 2, p 2. 

4TH ROW: K 2, p 2, k 1, p 2, cast on 2 sts. 

5TH ROW: K 4, p 1, k 2nd st thru back, then k 1st st for twist, p 2. 

6TH ROW: K 2, p 2, k 1, p 4, cast on 2 sts. 

7TH ROW: K 6, p 1, k 2, p 2.

2ND ROW: P 2, k 2, p 1, k 6, p 1. 

3RD ROW: Sl 1, p 1, psso, p 1, psso, p 2 tog twice, k 1, p 2, k 2. 

4TH ROW: P 2, twist 2, p 1, k 3. 

5TH ROW: Sl 1, p 1, psso, p 1, psso, k 1, p 2 tog, k 2. 

6TH ROW: P 2, k 1, p 1, k 1. Bind off rem 5 sts.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work to corres to Left Front, have decs, front border & facing at opposite sides.

Work buttonholes opposite markers as fol­lows:

RIGHT SIDE:
K 3, bind off next 2 sts, k 4, bind off next 2 sts, work to end of row.

Next row cast on 2 sts over bound-off sts.

RAGLAN ARMHOLE :
1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: Work to last 4 sts, k 3 tog, k 1.

2ND ROW: P 2, work to end of row. 

3RD ROW: Work to last 3 sts, k 2 tog, k 1.

Rep 2nd & 3rd Rows until 21[22-23-24] sts rem.

Rep 2nd & 1st Rows twice.

Bind off rem 17[18-19-20] sts.

RIGHT FRONT BAND:
Cast on 5 sts.

1ST ROW - WRONG SIDE: K 1, p 2, k 2.

2ND ROW: P 2, k 2, p 1, cast on 2 sts.

3RD ROW: P 2, k 1, p 2, k 2.

4TH ROW: P 2, twist 2, p 1, k 2, cast on 2 sts.

5TH ROW: P 4, k 1, p 2, k 2.

BACK:
Cast on 83[87-91-95] sts.

Work in ribbing as follows:
1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: K 1, * p 1, k 1, rep from * across.

2ND ROW: P 1, * k 1, p 1, rep from * across.

Rep these 2 rows for patt.

Work until back meas 2¼”.

RAGLAN ARMHOLES:
1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, work in patt to last 4 sts, K 3 tog, K 1.

2ND ROW: P 2, work in patt across to last 2 sts, P 2.

3RD ROW: K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, work across to last 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1.

Rep last 2 rows 23[24- 25-26] times more - 31[33-35-37] sts on needle.

Re­p 2nd Row once, then 1st & 2nd Rows twice, then 1st Row.

Dec every row as follows: P 1, p 2 tog, work across to last 3 sts, p 2 tog thru back of lps, p 1.

Next row rep 1st Row.

Rep these last 2 rows until 5 sts rem, k 1, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, k 1.
NEXT ROW: P 3 tog. Bind off last st.

CABLE BANDS FOR BACK:
For left side work same as right front band until edges meas same as long edge of left front band.

BACK OF NECK:
Sl 1, k 1, psso, p 2 tog, psso, k 1, psso, p 2 tog 4 times, k 1, p 2 tog, k 2.

NEXT ROW: P 2, k 1, p 1, k 5. Bind off.

Work right side to corres, reverse shaping.

SLEEVES:
Start with band, cast on 14 sts.

1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: P 2, k 4, p 2, k 4, p 2.

2ND ROW: K 2, p 4, k 2, p 4, k 2.

3RD & 4TH ROWS: Rep 1st & 2nd rows.

5TH ROW: P 2, sl next 2 sts onto cable needle & hold in back, k next 2 sts, then k 2 sts from cable needle for cable twist, p 2, cable twist on next 4 sts, p 2.

6TH ROW: Same as 2nd Row.

Rep these 6 rows for patt.

When band meas 8½”[8½”-9”-9”], bind off, do not break yarn.

Pick up & k 59[61-63-65] sts across long side of band.

1ST ROW - WRONG SIDE: K 1, * p 1, k 1, rep from * across row.

2ND ROW: P 1, * k 1, p 1, rep from * across row.

Cont to work in ribbing, inc 1 st each side every 6th row 8[8-4-4] times.

ON SIZES 14 & 16 ONLY:
Inc 1 st each side every 8th row 4 times, be careful to keep patt even = 75[77-79-81] sts on needle.

Work until sleeve meas 13”[13”-13½”-13½”].

RAGLAN SLEEVE CAP:
Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Re­p 2nd & 3rd Rows of raglan armhole on back until 19 sts rem.

Dec 1 st each side every row as before until 5 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: K 1, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, k 1. Bind off rem 3 sts.

COLLAR:
Cast on 83[83-85-85] sts.

Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 4¼”. Bind off in ribbing.

WAISTBAND:
Work same as sleeve band for 28”[29”- 30”-31”]. Bind off.

BUTTONS:
Leave about 5” of yarn for sew­ing button to garment, ch 2, work 10 sc in 2nd ch from hk, sl st in 1st sc.

Break yarn, leave about 27” end of yarn.

With tapestry needle draw yarn thru to wrong side, then overcast over ring & into back lp of sc, about 3 sts in each sc to cover button ring.

FINISHING:
Block pieces.

Be sure that edges of bands meas same as corres raglan edges of fronts & sleeves.

Sew seams with back st or crochet with sl st.

Sew bands tog for 1½” at center back.

Sew facings in place, work around buttonholes.

Sew bound-off edge of collar in place, start & end 1” from front edges.

Sew waistband in place.

Crochet 1 row of sc around front edges, side edges of collar, across lower edge & sleeve edges.
