Vintage 1968 Mod Orange Frappe Mini Dress #1386

MATERIALS:
Patons Gem Knitting Cotton:
18 [19] Balls Main Color [MC]; 12 [12] Balls Contrast Color [CC]
1 Pair Each Milwards Disc or Patons Knitting Needles #7, #8 & #9
1 Phantom Crochet Hook #9
1 Stitch Holder
8 Buttons
1 ½ yds Coats Fine Nainsook Hem Facing

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 32” [35”]
Length measured flat = 33” [33 ½”]; when worn 34” [34 ½”] or needed length
Sleeve seam = 1/2”

GAUGE/TENSION:
11 ½ sts = 2” meas over st st on #8 needles with double yarn

FRONT YOKE:
Use #8 needles & MC dbl, cast on 101 [109] sts.

1ST ROW: K 2, * p 1, k 1, rep from * to last st, k 1.

2ND ROW: K 1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end.

Cont as foll:

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Keep cont of rib, cast off 6 [7] sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of next & alt rows until 77 [81] sts rem.

Work 19 [21] rows.

SHAPE NECK:
NEXT ROW: Rib 31 [32], turn.

Cont on these 31 [32] sts, dec 1 st at neck edge in alt rows until 25 [26] sts rem.

Work 4 rows.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
1ST ROW: Work to last 8 [9] sts, turn.

2ND ROW: Work to end.

3RD ROW: Work to last 16 [18] sts, turn.

4TH ROW: Rep 2nd row. Cast off in rib.

Sl next 15 [17] sts on st holder, join in yarns, & work other side to corres.

BACK YOKE:
Work as front yoke to end of armhole shaping.

Cont until armholes meas same as front armholes.

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
1ST & 2ND ROWS: Work to last 8 [9] sts, turn.

3RD & 4TH ROWS: Work to last 16 [18] sts, turn.

5TH & 6TH ROWS: Work to last 25 [26] sts, turn.

7TH ROW: Work to end.

8TH & 9TH ROWS: Cast off 25 [26] sts, work to end.

Change to #9 needles & work 7 rows rib for neckband.

Cast off loosely in rib.

FRONT:
With RS facing, use #9 needles & 1 ball each MC & CC, k up 101 [109] sts evenly along lower edge of front yoke.

1ST ROW: P.

** 2ND ROW: K.

3RD ROW: K 2 tog, * m 1, p 1, m 1, yb,sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, rep from * to last 3 sts, m 1, p 1, m 1, yb, sl 1, k 1, psso.

4TH ROW: K.

5TH ROW: P 1, * m 1, yb, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, m 1, p 1, rep from * to end **.

Rep from ** to ** for 8”.

Change to #8 needles & cont in patt for another 8”.

Change to #7 needles & cont in patt until front meas 33” [33 ½”] or 1” less than needed length, from top of shoulder, end with 3rd or 5th patt row. Cast off.

BACK:
Work exactly as for front.

SLEEVES:
Use #8 needles & MC dbl, cast on 73 [77] sts, & work 2 rows rib as for front yoke.

SHAPE TOP:
Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec 1 st each end of next & alt rows until 43 sts rem, then every row until 21 sts rem.

Cast off in rib.

FRONT NECKBAND:
With RS facing, use #9 needles & MC dbl, k up 17 [18] sts along left side of neck, rib across sts from st holder, k up 17 [18] sts along RS of neck 49 [53] sts.

1ST ROW: K 1, * p 1, k 1, rep from * to end.

Work 6 more rows in rib.

Cast off loosely in rib.

FINISHING:
Use back st, join side & sleeve seams & shoulder seams for ½”.

Sew in sleeves.

With RS facing, use #9 needles & MC dbl, k up 20 sts across back of shoulder openings.

Work 4 rows g-st for underlap. Cast off.

Use crochet hk & MC dbl, work 1 row DC along front of shoulder openings,  work 4 button-lps on each shoulder.

Sew underlaps in place.

Sew on buttons.

With Ws facing, use 1 ball each MC & CC, work 1 row DC around lower edge of dress.

Sew hem facing on WS.

Press seams.
