American Thread Company Dawn Medium Weight Pompadour:
7 Balls Buttercup; 1 Ball Baby Blue
Star Six Strand Embroidery Cotton, Art #50:
1 Skein each Nile Green, Baby Pink & Pink
1 Small Buttons
1 Steel Crochet Hook #2

GAUGE/TENSION:
5 shells = 2”

SWEATER:
RIBBING:
With Buttercup CH12, SC in 2nd st from hk, 1 SC in each rem st of CH, CH1, turn.

2ND ROW: Work in back lp of sts for entire ribbing work 1 SC in each SC, CH1, turn.

Rep 2nd row until there are 162 rows = 81 ribs.

Work across long side work 162 SC across ribbing [RS], CH3, turn.

2ND ROW: [WS], 4 DC in same sp with CH3, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, 5 DC in same sp with last SC [shell], rep from * once, [3 shells made], ** sk 1 SC, SC in next SC, DC in next SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 DC in each of next 3 SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, DC in next SC, sk 1 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, rep from * twice, rep from ** once, sk 1 SC, SC in next SC, DC in next SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 DC in each of next 3 SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, DC in next SC, sk 1 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, rep from * 21 times, sk 1 SC. Open patt is front of sweater.

4TH ROW: 4 DC in same sp, * SC in CH1 of next shell, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, rep from * once, ** sk SC of same shell, SC in next SC, DC in next DC, CH2, 1 DC in each of next 3 DC, CH2, DC in next DC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, * SC in CH1 of next shell, CH1, shell in same sp, rep from * twice, rep from ** once, sk SC of same shell, SC in next SC, DC in next DC, CH2, 1 DC in each of next 3 DC, CH2, DC in next DC, SC in next SC, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, * SC in CH1 of next shell, CH1, 5 DC shell in same sp, rep from * 21 times, SC in CH3 of last shell, CH3, turn.

Rep 3rd & 4th rows until there are 25 rows of shell patt.

Work meas about 6” from beg.

BACK [RS]:
DC in 1st SC, 1 sl st in each of the next 3 DC of 1st shell [underarm], SC in CH1 of next shell, CH1, shell in same sp, work 17 more shells across back ending with SC in CH1 of next shell, CH3, turn.

Cont work back & forth in shell patt until there are 14 rows from underarm, CH3, turn.

NEXT ROW: * Sk 1st DC of shell, 1 SC in each of next 4 DC of same shell, rep from * across row = 72 SC, CH1, turn.

LEFT SHOULDER:
1 SC in each of next 20 SC, CH1, turn.

NEXT ROW: 1 SC in each SC, cut yarn.

RIGHT SHOULDER:
Attach yarn at opp side & work 1 SC in each of next 20 SC, CH1, turn.

NEXT ROW: 1 SC in each of 20 SC, CH1, turn.

NEXT ROW: 1 SC in each of 20 SC of shoulder, 2 SC in corner, 1 SC in each SC across back of neck, 2 SC in corner of other shoulder, 1 SC in each SC across shoulder, cut yarn.

Attach Blue & work 1 sl st in each SC, cut yarn.

FRONT:
Attach yarn in 1st st from left armhole edge & work 8 sl sts over 1st 2 shells [left underarm], SC in CH1 or 3rd shell, CH1, shell in same sp, SC in next SC, DC in next DC, cont in patt across front same as prev rows work 1 shell after 3rd openwork panel, ending with SC in CH1 of next shell, CH3, turn.

2ND ROW: On WS work 4 DC in same sp, SC in CH1 of next shell, CH1, shell in same sp [2 shells], work across front in patt same as before, end with 2 shells at end or row, CH3, turn.

3RD ROW: SC in CH1 of 1st shell, CH1, shell in same sp, SC in CH1 of next shell, DC in next DC, then work in patt across front, always work openwork patt on openwork patt of prev row end with SC in CH1 of next shell, shell in same sp, SC in CH1 of next shell, CH3, turn.

Rep last 2 rows until there are 14 rows from underarm, end on WS at left armhole, CH3, turn.

NEXT ROW: [SHOULDER]: SC in CH1 of 1st shell, CH1, shell in same sp, SC in CH1 of next shell, DC in next DC, openwork patt over 1st openwork patt, SC in CH1 of next shell, CH1, shell in same sp, SC in CH1 of next shell, CH3, turn.

Work 3 more rows in patt, end at left armhole edge, CH1, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work 7 SC over 2 shells, 6 SC over openwork patt, 7 SC over last 2 shells = 20 SC, CH1. turn.

NEXT ROW: 1 SC in each of 1st 2 SC, CH2, sk 2 SC [buttonhole], 1 SC in each of next 6 SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 SC in each of next 8 SC, cut yarn.

RIGHT SHOULDER:
Attach yarn in 3rd shell to left of center openwork panel & keep patt even, work shoulder to corres, cut yarn.

Attach yarn in 1st st of left shoulder & work 1 SC in each SC & 1 SC in each st of CH, 2 SC in corner of shoulder, 7 SC on side of neck, 2 SC at center neck, 4 SC over each of next 2 shells, 1 SC in each st of openwork panel, finish opp side to corres, cut yarn.

Attach Blue & work 1 sl st in each SC, cut yarn.

SLEEVES [CUFF]:
With Buttercup CH10, & work ribbing same as on sweater until there are 36 rows = 18 ribs.

Work across long side work 55 SC, CH3, turn.

2ND ROW: 1 DC in same sp, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, rep from * 4 times, SC in next SC, DC in next SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 DC in each of next 3 DC, CH2, sk 2 SC, DC in next SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, rep from * 4 times, SC in last SC, CH3. turn.

Work in patt same as sweater until there are 27 rows of shells, CH1, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work 55 SC across row, cut yarn.

Sew side seam.

Sew shoulder seam ¼” in from shoulder edge.

Sew sleeve seams & sew sleeves in place.

Sew buttons in position.

TIE:
With 2 strands of Blue crochet CH 7” long.

Tie in LS of sweater as shown.

Finish with small pompon at each end.

POMPONS:
Wind Blue around ¾” cardboard 150 times.

Tie securely at each end of cardboard.

Cut yarn at center & trim into shape.

EMBROIDERY:
With Blue work running st diagonally thru 2 rows of DC then in opp direction thru next 2 rows.

Rep down center of each openwork panel.

With Bain Pink Star Six Strand Embroidery Cotton work flower in each point, using 1 Lazy Daisy st for each flower.

Place Pink st in center of each flower.

With Nile Green work ¼” outline st on each side of flower.

CAP:
FRONT EDGE [RIBBING]:
With Buttercup CH12 & work ribbing same as on sweater until there are 102 rows [51 ribs].

Work 102 SC across long side [RS], CH3, turn.

Work in patt same as sweater front.

2ND ROW: 1 DC in same sp, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, rep from * 1 times, ** sk l SC, SC in next SC, DC in next SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 DC in each of next 3 SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, DC in next SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, rep from * twice, rep from ** twice, * sk 3 SC, SC in next SC, CH1, shell in same sp, rep from * once, SC in end CH[3 open patt stripes with 1 shells bet patt stripes & 6 shells on each end], CH3, turn.

NEXT ROW: There will be 6 shells at beg of row, open patt stripe, 3 shells, open patt stripe, 3 shells, open patt stripe, 5 shells, ending with SC in CH3, CH3. turn.

Rep last 2 rows until there are 15 rows of shells, CH1, turn, then work 102 SC across row, cut yarn.

CROWN:
With Buttercup CH2, 6 SC in 1st st of CH, do not join rnds, place marker at beg of each rnd.

2ND RND: 2 SC in each SC = 12 SC.

3RD RND: * 1 SC in each of next 2 SC, 1 DC in same st of prev rnd, rep from * all around = 6 DC in rnd.

4TH RND: * 1 SC in each of next 3 sts, 1 DC around post of same DC, pick up entire post & insert hk sideways from right to left, rep from * all around.

Cont inc 1 st in each gore [6 gores] until there are 20 rows.

This will meas approx 4 ½”.

Pin crown to cap & leave 1 gore free at back of neck.

With Buttercup crochet 2 sections tog with row of SC, cut yarn.

Attach Blue & work 1 sl st in each SC, cut yarn.

Start at LS of neck work 70 SC across lower edge work st for st over ribbing & 19 SC on sides & 10 SC on back, CH1, turn.

NEXT 6 ROWS: 1 SC in each SC, CH1 to turn all rows, cut yarn.

TIE:
With 1 strand of Blue, crochet CH 5” long, tie in left side of center front & finish ends with pompons.

POMPONS FOR FRONT OF CAP:
Wind Blue 75 times over ½” cardboard & finish same as for sweater pompon.

POMPONS FOR SIDE OF CAP:
Wind Blue over 1” cardboard 150 times, end in same manner.

Sew to cap as shown.

Sew ribbon in place on each side under pompons.

Embroider same as sweater.

BOOTIES:
UPPER SECTION:
Start at top with Buttercup CH14 & work ribbing same as for sweater until there are 50 rows = 25 ribs.

Work 49 SC across long side of ribbing, CH4, turn.

2ND ROW: DC in 2nd SC, * CH1 [beading], sk 1 SC, DC in next SC, rep from * across row, CH1, join in 3rd st of CH4, CH1, turn.

3RD ROW: Work 49 SC across row, drop yarn.

INSTEP:
On RS attach length of Buttercup in 20th SC from center back, CH3, DC in next SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 DC in each of next 3 SC, CH2, sk 2 SC, 1 DC in each of next 2 SC, CH3, turn.

NEXT ROW: DC in next DC, CH2, 1 DC in each of next 3 DC, CH2, 1 DC in next DC, DC in 3rd st of CH, CH3, turn.

Rep last row 3 times, do not CH3 at end of last row, cut yarn.

Pick up dropped yarn at center back & work 1 SC in each SC, work in SC around entire instep work 2 SC in each corner at toe, 1 SC in each SC to back, CH3, turn.

NEXT ROW: 4 DC in same sp, then work 17 more shells same as sweater sp shells evenly, end with SC in last st, CH3, turn.

Work 3 more rows of shell patt, CH1 to turn last row.

NEXT ROW: 1 SC in each shell, cut yarn & leave an end.

Thread into needle & sew back seam.

Work embroidery design over instep same as sweater.

SOLE:
CH20 [approx 2 ¾”], 4 SDC in 3rd st from hk [SDC: yarn over hk, insert in st, pull lp through, yarn over & pull thru all lps at 1 time], 1 SDC in each of next 16 sts of ch, 4 SDC in end ch, work on other side of ch, work 1 SDC in each of next 10 sts, join in 1st SDC.

2ND RND: CH2, SDC in same sp, 2 SDC in each of next 3 sts, 1 SDC in each of next 15 sts, 2 SDC in each of next 5 sts, 1 SDC in each of next 15 sts, 2 SDC in last st, join.

3RD RND: CH2, SDC in same sp, 2 SDC in each of next 4 sts, 1 SDC in each of next 18 sts, 2 SDC in each of next 7 sts, 1 SDC in each of next 18 sts, 2 SDC in last st, join.

4TH RND: CH2, work 1 SDC in each st inc 4 sts evenly sp around toe & 3 sts around heel, join.

5TH RND: CH2, 1 SDC in each st inc 4 sts evenly sp = 72 sts, join, cut yarn.

Pin in place to upper section.

With Buttercup crochet 2 sections tog with SC, cut yarn.

With Blue work 1 sl st in each SC, cut yarn.

With 1 strand of Blue crochet CH about 12” long.

Lace thru beading & end with small pompons, same as pompons on center of cap.
