1950s Cozy Dog Coat #601

A clever woman very quickly & easily will knit this cozy coat for her best buddy…a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!

MATERIALS: 

American Thread Co ‘Dawn’ Knitting Worsted, 5 oz green, 1 oz white

#4 Knitting Needles

#4 Bone Crochet Hook

5 Snap Fasteners

GAUGE: 

6 sts = 1”

PATTERN: 

1^ST ROW:  * K 3, p 1, rep from * across row.

2^ND ROW:  K 2, * p 1, k 3, rep from * across row, end row with p 1, k 1.

Rep last 2 rows for patt.

COAT: 

With green cast on 52 sts & work in patt inc 1 st on each side every row until there are 92 sts on needle.

Work even in patt until work meas 14” from beg.

NEXT ROW:  Dec 1 st on each side, then dec 1 st on each side every other row until there are 84 sts on needle. 

Work even until work meas 15” from beg.

NEXT ROW:  Work across 32 sts & place on holder for right neck front, bind off next 20 sts for back of neck, work across rem 32 sts.  Work 1 row even, end at neck edge.

NEXT ROW:  Dec 1 st at beg of row, then dec 1 st at neck edge every other row until 24 sts rem. 

Work even for 3”, then dec 1 st on each side every row until all sts have been worked, cut yarn.

RIGHT NECK BAND: 

Sl 32 sts from holder & work same as left neck band reverse shaping & dec, cut yarn.

RIGHT STRAP BAND: 

Attach green about 5” from last inc at lower edge on right side of coat & work 1 sc in each of next 6 rows, ch 1, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Work 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.  Rep last row until band meas 6” from beg, cut yarn.

LEFT STRAP BAND: 

Work same as right band, but work only 1 ½”, cut yarn.

Attach white at lower edge & work row of sc all around outer edge including 2 strap bands, work 3 sc in each corner, join.

Work 1 more row of sc all around, cut yarn.

Finish with snap fasteners.
