1945 Moderne Bathing Suit #1245
MATERIALS:
Patons Beehive Fingering, 3 Ply: 4oz Red; 2 oz White
1 Pair Beehive Knitting Needles #12
1 Crochet Hook #12
3 Buttons
GAUGE/TENSION:
8 1/2 sts = 1”
NOTE:
Size increases are made by increasing hook sizes or yarn weight.
MEASUREMENTS:
Bust = 33” – 35”
Hips = 37” – 39”
Waist to Lower Edge of Crotch = 13”
PATTERN:
1ST ROW: K in white.
2ND
ROW; K in white.
3RD
ROW: Join in red, * K5 red, sl 1 purlwise, rep from * to last 5 sts, K5 red.
4TH
ROW: P all red sts & sl all white stspurlwise.
5TH
ROW: Rep 3rd row.
6TH
ROW: Rep 4th row.
7TH
ROW: Pick up white, K all sts in white.
8TH
ROW: K white.
9TH
ROW: K2 red, sl 1 purlwise, * K5 red, sl 1 purlwise; rep from * to last 2 sts,
K2 red.
10TH
ROW: Rep 4th row.
11TH
ROW: Rep 9th row.
12TH
ROW: Rep 4th row.
TRUNKS:
BACK & FRONT ALIKE:
Cast on 41 sts & work 12 rows in patt.
Cont in
patt, cast on 3 sts beg of next 20 rows = 101 sts.
Now cast on
4 at beg of next 10rows = 141 sts.
Work 12
rows straight.
Now K2tog
at each end of next & every following 4th row until there are 99
sts left on needle.
Work
straight until 12 patts & 2 rows have been compl, end with 2 white rows.
Break off
white & work 1 ½” K1, P1 rib in red, dec 1 st at beg of 1st row.
Cast off in
rib using double yarn.
TABS: [MAKE
8]:
CH 13, & on these work 3 rows DC FIRMLY.
BELT:
CH 8, & work 40” DC FIRMLY, 7 DC to row to meas just under 1” in width, always
work last DC into prev row to make firm edge.
FINISHING:
Press carefully, & avoid rib.
Join side
seams.
Sew tabs in
pairs as shown in photo, 4 at back & 4 at front.
Run belt
thru tabs & sew button to center front.
With RIGHT SIDE facing, pick up & K140 sts around each leg; work
1” K1, P1 rib in red.
Cast off in
red, & use double yarn.
Join
under-leg seam.
TOP:
MAIN PART:
Cast on 3 sts in white & K 1 row.
Now cont in
patt, inc 1 st at beg of every row for 28 rows = 31 sts; then at each end of
every row until there are 63 sts.
Now cast on
4 sts at beg of every row until there are 119sts, then 50 at beg of next 2 rows
= 219 sts.
Work 8 rows
straight in patt.
Cast off 10
sts at beg of next 2 rows, 5 at beg of next 12 rows, 3 at beg of next 4 rows, 2
at beg of next 4 rows.
Now dec 1
st at beg of every row until 107 sts rem.
NEXT ROW:
K2tog, patt 51, cast off 2, patt 52.
Cont on
last 52 sts, dec 1 st at beg of every row, armhole edge, & cast off 2 sts
at beg of every row, center front edge.
When there
are 34 sts on needle, dec 1 st at beg of every row until 5 rem. Cast off.
Work other
side to corres.
BORDERS:
With red & RIGHT
SIDE facing, pick up & K125 sts
along lower edge from center back to center front.
Work 11
rows K1, P1 rib, inc 1 st at center front on every row [beg of 1 row & end
of next].
Cast off in
rib, take 2 tog every 20 sts.
Work other
side to corres.
In same
way, pick up & K100 sts from center back to point of left-hand bodice.
Work 11
rows in rib, inc 1 st every row at point. Cast off as before.
Work right
side to corres.
Pick up
& K40 sts down 1 side of center V from tip to center, 1 from center &
40 up other side.
Work 11
rows in rib, inc 1 st at each end of every row at tips, & dec 2 sts at
center by K tog 2 sts either side of center st [which should be K] on 1st
& every alternate row. Cast off in rib.
FINISHING:
Press patt part carefully.
Join ribbed
bands neatly at 2 top points, & at lower point, but leave an opening for
buttonhole here.
Make 2 ties
as for trunks’ belt, each 20”, & sew on behind each point.
Make 2
crochet lps at right edge center back & sew on buttons on other side to corres.
