Vintage Irish Lace Gloves #1131
SIZE:
Medium

MATERIALS:
Clarks ONT, 3 balls
or
J & P Coats Mercerized Crochet #50, 2 balls
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook #12

GLOVES:
The back of hand & palm side are worked separately in 2 flat pieces.

These 2 pieces are joined around sides of hand & fingers.
LEFT HAND:
Beg at wrist end, ch 67, turn.

1ST ROW: Sc in 12th ch from hk, * ch 6, sk 4 ch of foundation, sc in next ch, rep from * across [12 lps]. Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW: Dc in 1st lp, * ch 6, sl st in 4th ch from hk [1 ch-3 p made], ch 1, 2 dc in next lp. Rep from * across, end row with 2 dc. Ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW: Dc in dc, ch 3, sc in 1st lp, * ch 6, sc bet 2 dc made tog. Rep from * across, end row with ch 3, dc in each of last 2 dc [11 ch-6 lps & 1 ch-3 lp at each end]. Ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW: Dc in dc, ch 6, sk ch-3 lp, sc in next lp, ch 6, ** 1 cluster in next lp [to make cluster, * yo, insert hk in next lp & draw out lp, rep from * until there are 9 lps on hk. Then yo & draw thru 8 lps, leave 2 lps on hk. Yo & draw thru 2 lps], ch 1, cluster in same lp, ch 1, cluster in same lp, ch 6, sc in next lp, ch 6, 2 dc in next lp, ch 6, sc in next lp, ch 6. Rep from ** across, end row with sc in last ch-6 lp, ch 6, sk ch-3 lp, dc in next dc, dc in turning ch. Ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW: Dc in dc, * ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in each of next 2 lps, ch 1, p, ch 1, sc in each ch-1 sp of clusters, ch 1, p, ch 1, 1 dc in each of next 2 lps, ch 1, p, ch 1, 2 dc bet next 2 dc. Rep from * across, end with 2 dc. Ch 3, turn.

6TH ROW: Dc in dc, ch 6, sc bet 2-dc made tog, * ch 6, sc in 2nd sc above clusters, ch 6, sc bet next 2-dc, ch 6, sc bet next 2-dc, ch 6, sc bet next 2-dc. Rep from * across, end row with 2 dc. Ch 3, turn.

7TH ROW: Dc in dc, ch 3, sc in next lp, * ch 6, sc in next lp, rep from * across, end with ch 3, 2 dc [11 ch-6 lps & 2 ch-3 lps]. Ch 3, turn.

8TH ROW: Dc in dc, ch 6, sk ch-3 lp, * sc in next lp, ch 6, 2 dc in next lp, ch 6, sc in next lp, ch 6, in next lp make 3 clusters separated by ch-1 [as in 4th row], ch 6. Rep from * across, end row with ch 6, 2 dc. Ch 3, turn.

9TH ROW: Dc in dc, * ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in each of next 2 lps, ch 1, p, ch 1, 2 dc bet next 2-dc, ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in each of next 2 lps, ch 1, p, ch 1, sc in each ch-1 bet clusters. Rep from * across. Ch 3, turn.

10TH ROW: Dc in dc, * ch 6, sc bet next 2-dc, ch 6, sc bet next 2-dc, ch 6, sc bet next 2-dc, ch 6, sc in 2nd sc above clusters. Rep from * across. Ch 3, turn.

11TH ROW: Rep 7th row.

The last 8 rows [4th to 11th rows incl] make up patt.

12TH TO 39TH ROWS INCL: Rep last 8 rows.

The 39th row brings work to base of fingers. Ch 3, turn.
FOREFINGER:
1ST ROW:
 Dc in dc, ch 1, dc in same place, ch 1, p, ch 1, sk 1st ch-6 lp of prev row, 2 dc in next lp, ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in next lp, ch 1, 2 dc in same lp. Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW: Dc in ch-1 sp bet 2-dc, ch 1, dc in same place, ch 6, sc bet 2-dc made tog, ch 6, dc in ch-1 bet next 2-dc, ch 1, dc in same place, dc in turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW: Dc in ch-1 bet 2-dc, ch 1, dc in same place, ch 6, sc in next lp, ch 6, sc in next lp, ch 6, dc in ch-1 bet next 2-dc, ch 1, dc in same place, dc in turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW: Dc in ch-1 bet next 2-dc, ch 1, dc in same place, ch 1, p, ch 1, 2 dc in center lp, ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in ch-1 bet next 2-dc, ch 1, dc in same place, dc in turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.

Rep last 3 rows until work meas same as your forefinger. Break off.
MIDDLE FINGER:
Attach thread to 1st free lp of 39th row at base of forefinger.

1ST ROW: Ch 3, dc in same lp, ch 1, dc in same lp, ch 1, p, ch 1, 2 dc in next lp, ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in next lp, ch 1, 2 dc in same lp. Ch 3, turn.

2ND & SUBSEQUENT ROWS: Work as for forefinger until work meas same as your middle finger. Break off.
RING FINGER:
Work as for middle finger. Break off.
LITTLE FINGER:
Work as for middle finger. Break off.
PALM SIDE:
Made vertically - rows running from finger tips to edge of wrist. Ch 121, turn.

1ST ROW: Dc in 5th ch from hk, * ch 2, sk 3 ch sts, dc in next ch, ch 2, dc in same ch, rep from * across [30 groups]. Ch 5, turn.

2ND ROW: Sk 1st group, * make dc, ch 2 & dc in next sp. Ch 2, sk next group, rep from * across, end row with 1 group in turning ch. Ch 5, turn.

3RD TO 8TH ROWS INCL: Same as 2nd row. Break off.

This strip forms underside of thumb & inside of forefinger.

Make similar strip, start with ch 101 [25 groups].
THUMB:
Place 2nd strip over 1st strip in position, so that foundation chains of both strips touch each other.
Place pin at 1 end to hold strips tog.
From end with pin, count 10 groups along foundation chain, attach thread in next sp, & work back over these 10 groups as follows: * Ch 2, sk next group, sc in next sp work sc thru 2 strips in order to join them to make thumb. Rep from * along 10 groups, then across end & cont up on other side along 10 groups. Break off.

This completes thumb.

Try thumb on left hand, having shorter strip extend towards wrist to form inside of hand.
1ST ROW: Attach thread to end of 8th row of this strip & work in patt to join at thumb & across 8th row of 2nd strip to base of forefinger [base of forefinger can be determined by placing this piece of work over prev piece which has already been completed]. Then make chain to reach tip of middle finger [start middle finger], turn.

2ND ROW: Work in patt across chain & over patt to end of prev row. Ch 5, turn.

3RD ROW: Work in patt to end of row. Ch 5, turn.

4TH ROW: Work in patt to within 11 groups from wrist edge, ch 2, sl st in next sp, ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW: Sk 1st group, make dc, ch 2 & dc in next sp, & cont in patt across. Ch 5, turn.

6TH ROW: Work in patt across prev row & across 4th row, to wrist edge. Ch 4, turn.

7TH ROW: Work in patt to within 13 groups from wrist edge, ch 2, sl st in next st, ch 3, turn.

8TH ROW: Sk 1st group, make dc, ch 2 & dc in next sp, & cont in patt to base of next finger [determine this point as before], make chain to reach tip of ring finger [start ring finger], turn.

9TH ROW: Work in patt across chain, across prev row & across 8th row to wrist edge. Ch 3, turn.

10TH TO 15TH ROWS INCL: Work in patt across. Ch 5, turn.

16TH ROW: Work in patt, start little finger as other fingers were started. Then work 5 more rows in patt & break off.
JOINING:
Place 1 piece over the other, so that fingers corres.

Attach thread 1½” from wrist edge & join 2 pieces with ch 2, & sc [as in thumb] around fingers, having 1½” open at opposite side of wrist.

Then work row of sc closely all around edges.
RIGHT HAND:
Since there is no right & wrong side to this work, make 2 pieces exactly as for left hand, but join to corres with right hand.
