Color-Block Two-Piece Dress #180 -
This
elegant two-piece dress is perfect for many occasions, taking you from the
office to the cocktail hour! The rich, contrasting colors of red, deep blue
& black make this a modern & extremely striking outfit. The slim skirt
can be created in the matching solid color of your choice. This is a can't miss

Starting
at lower edge, with Blue, cast on 37 [40, 43] sts.
Drop
Blue, attach Black and cast on 40 [42, 44] sts.
Drop
Black, attach Cherry and cast on 37 [40, 43] sts.

row: Purl
with Cherry 37 [40, 43] sts.
Drop
Cherry, pick up Black [when changing colors always twist the unused color
around the other to prevent making a hole] and purl 40 [42, 44] sts.
Drop
Black, pick up Blue and purl 37 [40, 43] sts.
2nd
row: With Blue, knit 37

TO
SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Bind
off at the beginning of the next 2 rows 6 [6, 7] sts.
Dec
1 st at both ends of every other row until there remain 96 [104, 108] sts.

1 st on the next row and every 6th row thereafter until there are on needle 102

[Piece
should measure 3 ½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping].

TO
SHAPE SHOULDER:

yarn at base of piece just made and work other side to correspond.

Bind
off for neck the next 22 [24, 20] sts.
Work
across the remaining 49 [52, 58] sts.
Work
over the last set of sts only, binding off 3 sts at neck edge every other row 3
[3, 4] times.
But,
at the Same Time, when piece measures
from 1st row of armhole shaping, ending at armhole edge 6 ½ ″ [7″, 7 ¼ ″] shape
shoulder as for Back.
Attach
yarn to opposite side of neck edge and work other side to correspond.
LEFT
POCKET:
Starting
at lower edge with Cherry, cast on 38 sts.
Work
straight in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) for 2 ¼ inches, ending with a
purl row.
Bind
off 8 sts at beginning of next row, then dec 1 st at decreased edge every other
row until 12 sts remain. Bind off.
Make
a rnd of sc all around edges, making 3 sc in each corner.
RIGHT
POCKET:
Work
as for Left Pocket, using Blue and reversing all shaping.
FINISHING:
Block
all pieces to measurements.
Sew
underarm and shoulder seams.
Make
a row of sc around all edges, using matching color yarn.
Sew
pockets in place, having lower edges of pockets in line with lower edge of
sweater.
Sew
in shoulder pads.
Make
a ch-6 button loop at top of right center back opening.
Sew
button opposite button loop.
Make
a ch-6 loop on both sides of waistline, using matching color yarn.
Draw
belt through loops.
SKIRT:
Use
Pair #9 [5 ¼ mm] Knitting needles & stockinette st.
BACK
OF SKIRT:
With
thread double, cast on 115 sts.
Work
in stockinette 3 ins and dec 1 st at each end.
* Work 2 ½ ins and dec 1 st at each end. Repeat from * 10 more times. [91 sts on needle].
On
next row, k 25 sts, dec 1 st, k across to within 26 sts from end of row, dec 1
st and finish row.
Work
5 more rows and on next row dec 1 st at each end.
Work
6 rows and on next row dec 1 st at each end.
On
next row, k 22 sts, dec 1 st, k across to within 23 sts from end of row, dec 1

skirt seams, leaving opening of 6 ins at right side.
Pick
up sts along opening and work 5 rows for placket.
Sew
skirt to belting and sew hooks on belting and snap fasteners on placket.
Turn
up hem for desired length.
