Vintage 1944 Anchors Aweigh Crochet Hat #1085

The college or business woman will delight in this amusing hat with ribbon accents.  It’s quick to create, easy to put on and always looks smart.


MATERIALS:
Bucilla Strawcraft
OR
Fleisher’s Straw-Twist [all rayon, 2 skeins
Bucilla or Fleisher’s White Crochet Hook #8
1 ¾ yds Narrow Grosgrain Ribbon

Entire hat is made using 2 strands.


HAT:
Ch 4, join with sl st into ring, work 7 sc in ring.

Mark end of rnds as an aid in counting.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each st [14 sc].

3RD RND:  2 Sc in each st [28 sc].

Work 2 rnds even.

6TH RND:  * 1 Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * to end of rnd [42 sc].

Work 2 rnds even.

9TH RND:  * 1 Sc in each of 3 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * to end of rnd [52 sc].

Work 2 rnds even.

12TH RND:  * 14 Sc, ch 24, sk 12 sc; rep from * once.

Work 1 rnd, working 1 sc in each st & in each ch [76 sc].

Work 3 rnds even.

17TH RND:  21 Sc, draw up lp in each of next 2 sts & work off as 1 sc [a dec], 6 sc, dec 1 st, 28 sc, dec 1 st, 6 sc, dec 1 st, 7 sc.

18TH RND:  18 Sc, dec 1 st, * 4 sc, dec 1 st *, rep bet *’s once, 22 sc, dec 1 st, rep bet *’s twicde, 4 sc [66 sc].

Work 4 rnds even.  Fasten off.

Make 4 bows of narrow grosgrain ribbon.

Sew to hat at shown in photo.
