Vintage 1950s Bridal Wreath Crochet Bedspread

SIZE: 
Single Size - 70” x 106”; 
Double Size - 92” x 106”

Materials: 
Lily 1ST  Century Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art 157:  22 skeins White or Ecru for Single Size; 29 skeins for Double Size
OR - Lily Frost-Tone Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art 49:  22 cones White or Ecru for Single Size; 29 cones for Double Size
OR - Lily Sky-Tone Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art 123-N:  33 balls White or Ecru for Single Size; 41 balls for Double Size
OR - Lily Glo-Tone Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art 42:  52 balls White or Ecru for Single Size; 69 balls for Double Size.
#10 Steel Crochet Hook.

GAUGE:
Each Block meas 7 ½”. 

Work tightly for best results.

1st BLOCK (BLK):
Starting in center, ch 7, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND:  Ch 6, dc in ring, (ch 3, dc) 6 times in ring, ch 3, join to 3rd st of ch-6 (8 sps).

2ND RND:  Ch 1, sc in same st, (3 sc in next sp, sc in next dc) rep around, join to front lp of 1st sc.

3RD RND:  Ch 1, sc in same lp, (ch 1, 2 dc in front lp of next sc, ch 1, sc in front lp of next sc) rep around, join thru both lps of l st sc (16 shells).

4TH RND:  Ch 1, sc directly behind in rem lp of sc 2ND RND, sc in rem lp of next 31 sc, join in thru back lp of 1st sc.

5TH RND:  Ch 1, sc in same lp, work in back lps, (ch 1, 2 dc in next st, ch 1, sc in next st) rep around, join thru both lps of l st sc.  Shells should be directly behind shells in 3RD RND.

6TH RND:  SL St to l st dc in next shell, ch 1, draw up lp in same dc, draw up lp in next dc, yo & draw thru all 3 lps on hk, (ch 5, draw up lp in each of 2 dc in next shell, yo & draw thru 3 lps on hk) rep around, end with ch 2, dc in 1st sc f or final lp.

7TH RND:   4 Dc in back lp of same sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, (4 dc in back lp of next sc bet lps, sc in next ch-5 lp) rep around.

8TH RND:  Ch 6, (tr in 2nd dc on next shell, ch 1, trc in next dc, ch 1, trc in sc bet shells drawing it up even with other trc, ch 1) rep around, join to 5th st of ch-6 (48 sps).

9TH RND:  Ch 1, sc in same st, (1 sc in next sp, sc in next trc, 2 sc in next sp, sc in next trc) rep around (120 sc), join to front lp of 1st sc.

10TH RND:  Ch 1, sc in same lp, (working in front lps, ch 1, dc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sc in next sc) rep around, join thru both lps of 1st sc (40 shells).

11TH RND:  Ch 1, sc directly behind in rem lp of sc in 9TH RND, sc in rem lp of next 119 sc, join thru back lp of 1st sc.

12TH RND:  Ch 1, sc in same lp, (work in back lps, ch 1, dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc) rep around, join.  Shells should be directly behind shells in 10TH RND.

13TH RND:  Sl st to center dc on next shell, ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 5, sc in center dc on next shell) rep around, end with ch 2, dc in 1st sc for final lp.

14TH RND:  3 Dc in back lp of same sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, (3 dc in back lp of next sc bet shells, sc in next ch-5 lp) rep around.

15TH RND:  Sl st to center dc of next shell, ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 7, sc in next shell) 39 times, ch 3, join with dc in 1st sc.

16TH RND:  (Ch 7, sc in next lp) 39 times, ch 3, dc in dc at end of last rnd.

17TH RND:  * Ch 3, 3 tr in next lp, ch 3, (3 dtrc, ch 7, 3 dtrc) in next lp, ch 3, 3 trc in next lp, ch 3, sc in next lp, (ch 7, sc in next lp) 6 times.  Rep from * around, end with only 5 ch-7 lps, ch 3, join with dc in dc at end of last rnd.

18TH RND:  * Ch 3, trc in next trc, 2 trc in next trc, I trc in next trc, ch 3, trc in next dtrc, 2 trc in next dtrc, 1 trc in next dtrc, ch 3, (3 dtrc, ch 7, 3 dtrc) in next (corner) lp, ch 3, trc in next dtrc, 2 trc in next dtrc, 1 trc in next dtrc, ch 3, trc in next trc, 2 trc in next trc, I trc in next trc, ch 3, sc in next lp, (ch 7, sc in next lp) twice, 5 dc in back lp of next sc bet lps, sc in next lp, (ch 7, sc in next lp) twice.  Rep from * around, end with only 1 ch-7 lp, ch 3, join in with dc in dc at end of last rnd.

FOR SINGLE SIZE SPREAD: 
Make 9 rows of 14 Blocks, joining adjacent sides as 2nd Blk was joined to 1st Block (where 4 corners meet, join 3rd & 4th corners to joining of 1st 2 corners).

FOR DOUBLE SIZE SPREAD: 
Make 12 rows of 14 Blocks.

EDGING: 
1ST RND:  Attach to 1 corner, ch 8, dc in same place, ch 5, sk 1 Blk, dc in next sp, *ch 6, sk 3 dc, dc in next sp, (ch 7, dc in next sp) twice, ch 9, trc in next sp, (ch 7, dc in sc bet next 2 shells) twice, ch 7, trc in next sp, ch 9, dc in next sp, (ch 7, dc in next sp) twice, ch 6, dc in next sp, ch 5, sk next sp, dc bet corner joining of Blks, ch 5, sk next sp, dc in next sp; rep from * to next corner sp, ch 5, dc in same corner sp, ch 5, dc in next sp; rep from * around, join to 3rd st of ch-8.

3RD RND:  Ch 1, sc in same sc with last sl st, (ch 5, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) twice, (ch 5, sk 4 sc, sc in next sc) rep around making each corner like first one; join with ch 2, dc in back lp of 1st sc.

4TH RND:  4 More dc in same st, sc in next lp, (4 dc in back lp of next sc bet lps, sc in next lp) rep around. Join & fasten off.

Stretch & pin spread right-side-down in true shape. 

Steam & press dry thru doubled cloth.
