Vintage 1945 Slim Tailored Jacket 

SIZE:
12, 14, 16, & 18
Directions are for size 12, with changes for 14, 16 & 18 in brackets.
MATERIALS
Beehive Moorland Non-Shrink Knitting Yarn, 3 ply, 1 oz: 11 [12-13-14] skeins
Pair Knitting Needles #3 [3 mm.]
1 yd Grosgrain Ribbon
Shoulder Pads
1 Large Hook & Eye, or Snap Fastener
GAUGE:
8 sts = 1”
14 rows = 1”
MEASUREMENTS:
Bust [jacket closed]:  32” [34”-36”-38”]
Width across back at underarm:  15” [16”-17”-18”]
Width across back between armholes:  13” [13 ½”-14”-14 ½”]
Width across each front at underarm:  9 ½” [10”- 10 ½”-11”]
Length from shoulder to lower edge:  22” [23”-24”-25”]
Length of side seam:  15 ½” [16”-16 ½”-17”]
Width across sleeve at upperarm:  12 ½” [13’-13 ½”-14”]
Length of sleeve seam:  17” [17 ½”-18”-18 ½”]
BACK:
Start at lower edge, cast on 120 [128-136-144] sts.
1ST & 2ND ROWS:  K across.
3RD & 4TH ROWS:  * K 2, sl 2 sts as if to p.  Rep from * across. 
These 4 rows make up the pattern.
Work in patt until piece meas 1”.
Keep continuity of patt as shown, dec 1 st at both ends of next row & every 6th row thereafter, until there rem 92 [100-108-116] sts.
Work straight until piece meas [waistline] 8” [8 ½”-8 ½”-9”].
Inc 1 st at both ends of next row & every 6th row thereafter until there are on needle 120 [128-136-144] sts.
Work straight until piece meas 15 ½” [16”-16 ½”-17”].
SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st at end of each row until there rem 104 [108-112-116] sts.
Work straight until piece meas from 1st row of armhole shaping 6 ½” [7”-7 ½”-8”].
SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Bind off 9 sts at beg of next 6 rows.
Bind off at beg of next 2 rows 8 [9-10-11] sts.
Bind off for back of neck rem 34 [36-38-40] sts.
FRONT:  [MAKE 2]:
Start at lower edge, cast on 76 [80-84-88] sts.
Work in patt as for back until piece meas 1”, end at side edge.
Dec 1 st at beg of next row [side edge] & at same edge every 6th row thereafter until there rem 62 [66-70-74] sts.
Work straight until piece meas [waistline], end at side edge 8” [8 ½”-8 ½”-9”].
Inc 1 st at side edge on next row & at same edge every 6th row thereafter until there are on needle 76 [80-84-88] sts.
Work straight until piece meas, end at side edge 15 ½” [16”-16 ½”-17”].
SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next row.
Dec 1 st at armhole edge every other row until there rem 68 [70-72-74] sts.
Work straight until piece meas from 1st row of armhole shaping, end at front edge 5” [5 ½”-6”-6 ½”].
SHAPE NECK:
Bind off at beg of next row 15 [16-17-18] sts.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on each row until there rem 35 [36-37-38] sts.
Work straight until piece meas from 1st row of armhole shaping, end at armhole edge 6 ½” [7”-7 ½”-8”].
Bind off 9 sts at armhole edge every other row 3 times.
Bind off rem 8 [9-10-11] sts.
SLEEVES:
Start at lower edge, cast on 56 [60-64-68] sts.
Work straight in patt as for back for 2”.
Inc 1 st at both ends of next row & every 8th row thereafter until there are on needle 104 [108-112-116] sts.
Work straight until piece meas 17” [17 ½”-18”-18 ½”].
SHAPE TOP:
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st at end of each row until 24 sts rem.  Bind off.
COLLAR:
Cast on 96 [100-104-108] sts.
Work in patt until piece meas 2”.  Bind off.
FINISHING:
Block pieces to measurements.
Sew shoulder & side seams.
Sew sleeve seams & sew sleeves in.
Sew bound-off edge of collar to neck edge.
Cut piece of ribbon 2” longer than waist measurement & baste inside waistline of jacket [to keep material from stretching].  Sew in place.
Sew hook & eye or large snap fastener at front edge of waistline for closing.
Sew in shoulder pads.
