GAUGE:

1ST ROW:
RIGHT SIDE: 1 Sc in 2nd
st from hk, 1 sc in each rem st – 51 [57] sts.
2ND ROW:
Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in 1st sc, ¥ yo, insert hk in next sc, yo
& draw up lp loosely, * yo, insert hk in same st, yo & draw up lp
loosely *; rep bet stars once, yo & draw thru all 7 lps on hk, ch 1 – bean
st --; 1 st in next sc ¥ ; rep bet ¥’s across row – 25 [28] beans.
3RD ROW:
Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in 1st sc, * sk top of bean st, work 1 sc in
each of next 2 sts *; rep bet stars to end – 51 [57] sts.
4TH ROW:
Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sc, rep bet ¥’s of 2nd
row across, end last rep 1 sc in each of last 2 sc – 24 [27] beans.
5TH ROW:
Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 2 sc, rep bet stars of 3rd row
across, end last rep 1 sc in each of last 3 sts.
Rep last 4 rows for patt.
Work even in patt until 56 rows – about 14” from beg, end on wrong side with patt 4th
row. Mark for underarm.
SHAPE ARMHOLE:
DEC ROW: Ch 1, turn, draw up lp in each of 1st 2 sts, yo & thru all 3 lps – 1 st dec--, work sc across row as before to within 2 sts of end, dec 1 st as before – 49 [55] sts.

Rep dec each side every 2nd row 3 [4] times more,

SHAPE NECK & SHOULDER:

Work even until 29 [31] rows – about 7 ¼” [7 ¾”] above
underarm marker. Fasten off.
Sk next 17 sts on last complete row for neck edge, from wrong side, work 1 sc in next st
& cont patt to end of row for 2nd shoulder.
NEXT ROW: Ch 1,
turn, work across row dec 1 st at end for neck – 12 [14] sts.
Complete to correspond to 1st shoulder.
FRONT:
Same as back.

Sew underam seams up to marker for underarm. Sew shoulder seams.

NECK BORDER:
With #5 hk, beg at shoulder seam, from right side, work 1 row sc around neck edge, keep work flat & have even # of sts; join with sl st in 1st sc.

around armhole edges & lower edge.
