Buttons
GAUGE: 5 sts [Moss st] = 1”.
Start
at neck with circular needle cast on 110 sts, work entire coat in moss st, work
back & forth as follows:
1ST
ROW: K 1, p 1 [moss st] for 39 sts
[front], inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, p 1, k 1 [start of sleeve] inc 1 st in
each of next 2 sts, p 1, k 1 for 20 sts [back], inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts,
p 1, k 1 [sleeve], inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, then p 1, k 1 on last 39 sts
[front] [118 sts on needle].
2ND
& ALL EVEN ROWS: * P 1, k 1, rep
from * across row.
3RD
ROW: K 1, p 1 for 40 sts [front], inc 1
st in each of next 2 sts, k 1, p 1 for 4 sts [sleeve], inc 1 st in each of next
2 sts, k 1, p 1 for 22 sts [back], inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, k 1, p 1 for
4 sts [sleeve], inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, k 1, p 1 for 40 sts [front] [126
sts].
5TH
ROW: K 1, p 1 for 41 sts, inc 1 st in
each of next 2 sts, p 1, k 1 for 6 sts, inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, p 1, k
1 for 24 sts, inc 1 st each of next 2 sts, p 1, k 1 for 6 sts [sleeve], inc 1
st in each of next 2 sts, p 1, k 1 for 41 sts [134 sts].
6TH
ROW: Work first set of buttonholes as
follows: Work 4 sts, bind off 5 sts,
work 22 sts, bind off 5 sts, work to end of row.
On next row cast on 5 sts over those bound off, work
another set of buttonholes every 3 ¼” - 3 times more [8 buttonholes].
Cont to inc 8 sts, every other row having 1 st more in each
front, 2 sts more in each sleeve, 2 sts more in back, for 35 inc rows [70 rows
from start, 390 sts on needle].
Divide sts for sleeves & body of coat, work 75 sts
[left front], then with straight needles work across next 74 sts of sleeve
[leave rem sts on circular needle].
Work sleeve for 17” [or desired length], bind off, join
yarn at underarm, work across 92 sts of back to other sleeve, then on next 74
sts with straight needles, work other sleeve to correspond.
Join yarn at underarm & work across right front.
Now
work across all sts on circular needle [join fronts & back].
Dec
2 sts each side at underarm every 12th row 6 times.
Work
3” even, then inc 2 sts each side at underarm every 12th row 15
times.
Work even until coat meas 31” or desired length. Bind off.
SCARF:
Cast
on 27 sts, work in moss st for 36”, bind off.
Sew
sleeve seams, overcast buttonholes.
Work
1 row sc around neck, then sew scarf across right front.
