Vintage 1930s Poodle Hat & Shoulder Bag #1018

MATERIALS:
SHOULDER BAG:
9 tubes Towe Brand Gimp
8” Zipper
Steel Crochet Hook #6
HAT:
4 tubes Tower Brand Gimp
Steel Crochet Hook #4

HAT:
NOTE:  Cluster st is 3 trebles [trc].

Chain 43, 42 sc on both sides of chain.

1ST RND:  * 1 Cluster in 1st sc, 1 sc in next st, * rep around.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in each of next 19 sc, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 19 sc.

3RD RND:  Like 1st rnd, but inc 1 cluster at each end.

Cont, alternating 2nd & 1st rnds until you have 19 rows of clusters.

Last rnd sl st to finish.

BAG:
NOTE:  This bag is made in 8 squares.
Ch 33, sk 1.

1ST ROW:  32 Sc, ch 1, turn.

2ND, 3RD, 4TH & 5TH ROWS:  Sc.

6TH ROW:  6 Sc * 1 cluster, 1 sc * rep bet * until you have 11 clusters, end row with 5 sc, ch 1, turn.

7TH ROW:  Sc.

8TH ROW:  7 Sc * 1 cluster, 1 sc * rep until you have 10 clusters, end row with 6 sc, ch 1, turn.

9TH ROW:  Sc.

10TH ROW:  Like 6th row.

11TH ROW:  Sc.

12TH ROW:  Like 8th row.

13TH ROW:  Sc.

14TH ROW:  Like 6th row.

15TH ROW:  Sc.

16TH ROW:  Like 8th row.

17TH ROW:  Sc.

18TH ROW:  Like 6th row.

19TH ROW:  Sc.

20TH ROW:  Like 8th row.

21ST ROW:  Sc.

22ND ROW:  Like 6th row.

23RD ROW:  Sc.

24TH ROW:  Like 8th row.

25TH & 26TH ROWS:  Sc.

27TH ROW:  28 Sc, 1 cluster, 1 sc, 1 cluster, 1 sc, ch 1, turn.

28TH ROW:  Sc.

29TH ROW:  Like 27th row.

30TH ROW:  Sc.

Make 3 more pieces in same manner.

Then make 4 pieces with 4 clusters at left side.

Crochet pieces tog as shown in photo, with sc.

GUSSET:
Ch 8, sk 1, 7 sc.
Cont for 70”, or as long as desired.

Attach gusset to bag with sc.

Sew in zipper & lining.

MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
[Before joining finished pattern pieces]

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab [if desired].

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
