Orleans Doll #559 - Crochet
Quick & easy to
crochet this lovely doll…Louisianan charm with a matching hat, apron, basket of
flowers, & panties…a beautiful favorite to keep or gift to that special
person!
MATERIALS:
J
& P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls each white & red, 1 ball each black
& yellow, & few yds each of green, pink, blue, rose & lavender.

SKIRT:
Start
at narrow end with white, make ch 7” long.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hk
& in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in each sc across. Drop white, turn.
3RD
ROW: Attach red to first sc, sc in same
sc & in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
4TH
ROW: Sc in each sc across.
Drop
red, pick up white.
Make
2 rows white & 2 rows red alternately until piece meas 32”, end with
red. Break off.
Sew
narrow ends tog, leave 1” free for back opening on side where colors were
changed.
Now
work waist edge of skirt as follows:
1ST
ROW: Attach red to end st of starting ch
at back opening, sc in same place, sc in end of each red stripe across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc closely across, hold in to fit
around waist. Break off.
TRIM:
With
black make ch 40” long.
1ST
ROW: Dc in 4th ch from hk
& in each ch across until piece is long enough to fit around bottom of
skirt. Cut off rem ch. Break off.
Sew
to lower edge of skirt, 1 ¼” from bottom.
BLOUSE:
FRONT:
Start
at lower edge with green, ch 20.
1ST
ROW: Dc in 4th ch from hk
& in each ch across. Ch 3, turn.
2ND,
3RD & 4TH ROWS:
Sk first ch, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Break
off at end of 4th row.
Attach
thread to 9th dc from end of last row & work across shoulder
& back as follows:
1ST
ROW: Ch 3, dc 1 dc [to dec 1 dc, work
off 2 dc as 1 dc] dc in each dc across.
Ch 3, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sk first dc, dc in each dc across,
dec 1 dc over last 2 dc, dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
3RD
& 4TH ROWS: Rep 1st
& 2nd rows. At end of 4th
row, ch 6, turn.
5TH
ROW: Dc in 4th ch from hk
& in next 2 ch, dc in each dc across & in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
6TH
THRU 11TH ROWS: Rep 2nd
row.
Break
off at end of 11th row.
Attach
thread to first free dc at front of Blouse & work other side to
correspond.
Sew
first 4 rows of front to last 4 rows of back at underarm to form sleeve
opening.
SLEEVE:
1ST
RND: Attach thread to underarm seam, ch
3, dc in center of end st of next row, * dc in top of next end st, dc in center
of same end st. Rep from * around.
Join
to top of ch [14 sts, incl ch 3].
2ND
& 3RD RNDS: Ch 3, dc in
each dc around. Join.
Break
off at end of 3rd rnd.
Work
other sleeve same way.
Now
work around neck as follows:
1ST
ROW: Attach red to back opening, sl st
closely around. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in first sl st, * ch 3, sk next
sl st, sc in next sl st. Rep from * across. Break off.
Sew
Blouse to Skirt.
Sew
2 snap fasteners to back opening of Blouse & hook & eye to skirt
opening.
APRON:
Start
at lower edge with Back, make ch 4” long.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hk
& in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
& 3RD ROWS: Sc in each sc
across. Ch 1, turn.
Drop
black, attach green to last sc made.
Make
2 sc rows of green. Break off.
Pick
up black & cont work in stripes, make 4 rows of black bet 2 rows each of
pink, blue, rose & green, end with 2 green rows.
NEXT
ROW: With black, 8 work off next 2 sc as
1 sc [1 sc dec]. Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.
FOLLOWING
ROW: Sc in each sc across, dec 5 sc
evenly across. Ch 35, turn.
TIE:
Attach
separate piece of black to other end of row, ch 34.
Pick
up main thread, sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across, sc in
each sc & in each ch across other tie ch.
Break off.
RUFFLE:
1ST
ROW: Attach yellow to upper edge of
Apron, sc closely around 3 sides, make 3 sc at corners. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in first sc, * ch 5, sk next sc,
sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Break off.
HAT:
With
red make ch 4 ¾” long. Join with sl st
to form ring.
1ST
RND: 2 Sc in each ch around. Join.
2ND
RND: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join.
Rep
2nd rnd until piece meas 1 ½” from starting ch. Break off.
Make
pleat in each side of Hat.
Sew
flower to side of Hat.
BASKET:
Start
at center of bottom with yellow, ch 2.
1ST
RND: 8 Sc in 2nd ch from
hk. Join.
2ND
RND: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around. Join.
3RD
RND: Ch 1, sc in first sc, * 2 sc in
next sc [1 sc inc], sc in next sc. Rep
from * around.
4TH
RND: Ch 1, sc in each around, inc 8 sc
evenly around. Join.
Rep
4th rnd until piece meas 1 ¼” diameter.
NEXT
RND: Pick up back lp only, sc in each sc
around.
Cont
work without inc until side meas 1 ¼”.
Break off.
BORDER:
With
wrong side of basket facing, attach lavender to back lp of last rnd & work
in patt for 4 more rnds. Join &
break off.
HANDLE:
Wind
strand of yellow closely around piece of wire 4 ¼” long.
Wind
strand of lavender loosely over yellow.
Fasten
ends securely.
Insert
ends of wire thru top of basket & fasten ends securely.
Place
flowers in basket.
PANTIES:
With
white & #6 hk, ch 38 loosely to fit around waistline, dc in 4th
st from hk, 1 dc in each rem st of ch, ch 3, turn.
2ND
ROW: 1 Dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in
next dc, * 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * across row,
end with 1 dc in last st, join in 3rd st of 1st ch 3.
3RD
& 4TH ROWS: Ch 3 [counts
as 1 dc], 1 dc in each dc, join in 3rd st of ch.
5TH
ROW: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc,
sk 21 dc, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, join.
6TH
ROW: * Ch 3, sc in next st, rep from *
all around, cut thread.
Attach
thread at crotch & finish other leg in same manner.
Work
row of sc around top of panties, working loosely, then work row of sc around
side opening, cut thread.
Tie
with ribbon on side.
If
desired, make an underskirt of crinoline [net] & taffeta.
