Vintage 1945 Ruffled
Sailor Hat #125 - Crochet
MATERIALS:
Hiawatha Super Twist Rayon Cord Art. 41, 2 tubes or
Hiawatha Strawlite Art. 47, 2 tubes
Steel crochet hook No. 1.
1 ¼ yards net veiling

yards narrow velvet ribbon
TOP:
1st
Rnd: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from
hook. Join with sl st in 1st sc.
Ch 1, turn.
2nd
Rnd: Work 2 sc in back loop only of each st
around. Join. Ch 1, turn.
NOTE: Entire hat is worked tightly in back loops
only.
3rd
Rnd: Sc in sc, * 2 sc in next st, sc in next
st. Repeat from * around. Join. Ch 1,
turn.
4th
Rnd: * 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2
sts. Repeat from * around. Join.
Ch 1, turn.
Work
in pattern, increasing 6 sts each round [do not increase directly over previous
increases] until there are 16 rounds [96 sts].
17th
and 18th Rnds: Increase 12
sts evenly around.
Piece
measures 6 inches in diameter. Do not
turn at end of 18th round.
SIDES: 1ST Rnd: * 3 sc in next st, ch 3, skip 4 sts, sc in next
st, ch 3, skip 4 sts. Repeat. From * around. Join; turn.
2nd
Rnd: * Sc in each of 3 ch, 3 sc in next st,
sc in each of 3 ch, skip 1 st, sc in next st, kip 1 st. Repeat from * around, ending with skip 1 st, sc
in next st. Join. Ch 1, turn.
3rd
Rnd: Sc in sc, * skip 1 st, sc in next 3 sts,
3 sc in next [center] st, sc in next 3 sts, skip 1 st, sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join.
Ch 1, turn.
Repeat
3rd round until point measures 2 ½ inches.
Increase
as before, but do not decrease, for 4 rounds.
Increase
every round and decrease every 2nd round for 1 inch. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Cut
ribbon in half.
Drape
veil around edge of crown.
Sew
center of one ribbon around
crown and make bow in back.
Shirr
center of bottom of
veil slightly; sew center 15 inch of other ribbon to shirred portion.
