Pane Knit Sweater #295
Quick to create, this
feminine knit sweater will become a season-spanning favorite!
MATERIALS:

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust: 34”;
Length
from Top of Shoulder: 19 ¼”;
Length
of Sleeve, Underarm Seam: 6”
GAUGE:
9
sts = 1”;
18
rows = 1”
BACK:
Start
at bottom, cast on 135 sts & work in garter st [k each row], dec 1 st at
both ends of every inch until piece meas 2”.
Then,
cont decs, work lace patt as follows:
1ST
ROW: K 3, [0, k 2 tog, k 1] 15 times; k
35, k 3, [0, k 2 tog,
k 1] 15 times.
k 1] 15 times.
2ND
ROW: P 3, [0, p 2 tog, p 1] 15 times; k
35, p 3, [0, p 2 tog, p 1] 15 times.
Rep
these 2 rows until piece measures 5” [125 sts].
Hereafter
cont alternating 2” bands of garter st with 3” bands of lace, keep center 35
sts in garter st.
Then
on next row & every 7th row , inc 1 st at both ends until there
are 153 sts on needle.
Work
straight until piece meas 10 ¾”.
TO
SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Bind
off 4 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows.
Then
dec 1 st at end of each row until 117 sts rem.
Work
straight until piece meas 7” from 1st row of armhole shaping, work
entirely in garter st after 3rd lace band is complete.
TO
SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Bind
off 2 sts at beg of each row until 53 sts rem.
Bind off.
RIGHT
FRONT:
Start
at bottom, cast on 87 sts & work in garter st, dec 1 st every 6th
row on one side only [underarm edge] until piece meas 2”; at same time, when
piece meas 1 ½” & every 2 ½” thereafter, make buttonhole 9 sts in from
front edge until 7 buttonholes have been made [to make buttonhole, on one row
bind off 7 sts; on next row, cast on 7 sts to replace those bound off].
Then
cont decs, start at straight edge, work lace patt as follows:
1ST
ROW: K 30, k 3, [0, k 2 tog, k 1] 17
times.
2ND
ROW: P 3, [0, p 2 tog, p 1] 17 times; k
30. Rep these 2 rows until piece meas 5”
[81 sts].
Hereafter
cont alternating 2” bands of garter st with 3” bands of lace, keep 30 sts at
center front in garter st.
NEXT
ROW & EVERY 7TH ROW: Inc
1 st at underarm side until there are 95 sts on needle.
Work
straight until piece measures 10 ¼”.
TO
SHAPE ARMHOLE:
Start
underarm edge, bind off 9 sts every other row twice, & 2 sts every other
row 3 times.
Then
dec 1 st every other row until 63 sts rem.
Work
straight until piece meas 6” from 1st row of armhole shaping, work
entirely in garter st after 3rd lace band is complete.
NECK
SHAPING:
Starting
at center front edge, bind off 31 sts.
Work across rem 32 sts.
Cont
in patt over these 32 sts only until piece meas 7” from 1st row of
armhole shaping.
SHAPE
SHOULDER:
Bind
off 2 sts at armhole edge, every other row until all sts are bound off.
LEFT
FRONT:
Work
exactly as for right Front, but omit buttonholes & reverse shaping.
SLEEVES:
Start
bottom, cast on 86 sts & work in garter st, inc 1 st a both ends of every 6th
row until
piece
meas 2”.
Cont
incs, work lace patt as follows:
1ST
ROW: K 3, * 0, k 2 tog, k 1. Rep from * across.
2ND
ROW: P 3, * 0, p 2 tog, p 1. Rep from * across.
Rep
these 2 rows until piece meas 5” [112 sts].
Cont
alternating 2” bands of garter st with 3” bands of lace.
When
piece meas 6” [116 sts], shape top of sleeve as follows:
Bind
off 5 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows.
Then
dec 1 st at end of every row until 26 sts rem, work entirely in garter st after
2nd lace band is completed.
Bind off.
FINISHING:
Sew
up side & shoulder seams.
Sew
up sleeve seams & sew sleeves in.
Sew
on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
Work
row of sc all around neck edge.
Turn
½” hem down Right Front & sew in place.
