CROWN:
Beg at tip, with brown, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.
CROWN:
Beg at tip, with brown, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.

RND: 6 Sc in ring.
2ND
& 3RD RNDS: 2 Sc in each
sc.
4TH
RND: Ch 3 [to count as dc], dc in same
place as sc just made, * dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, rep from * around.
5TH
RND: Sc in each dc, making an inc in
every 3rd dc [to inc, make 2 sc in 1 st]. Join with sl st in 1st sc &
break off.
6TH
RND: Attach green, ch 3 [to count as 1
dc], dc in each sc, inc in every 4th sc.
7TH
RND: Sc in each dc, inc in every 5th
dc. Join as before & break off.
8TH
RND: Attach orange, ch 3, dc in each sc,
inc in every 5th sc.
9TH
RND: Sc in each dc, inc in every 7th
dc. Join & break off.
10TH
RND: Attach yellow, ch 3, dc in each sc,
inc in every 8th sc.

Work

BRIM:
1ST RND: Attach green, ch 3, dc in each sc, inc in every 6th sc.
1ST RND: Attach green, ch 3, dc in each sc, inc in every 6th sc.
2ND
RND: Sc in each dc. Join & break off.
Hereafter
work in same manner as crown, but make incs only in dc rnds as follows:
Work with orange, inc in every 10th sc.
Work with orange, inc in every 10th sc.
Work
with yellow, with brown, green, orange & with yellow, inc in every 15th
sc to keep work flat.
Work
with brown, inc in every 20th sc.
Work
with green, orange, yellow, inc in every 20th sc.
Then,
to make brim hold shape, attach double thread of brown & work last 3 rnds
of sc over wire, making 1 sc in each sc of prev rnd. Fasten & break off.
RINGS:
With 2 strands of brown, make sufficient sc in ring, so that it is completely covered.
With 2 strands of brown, make sufficient sc in ring, so that it is completely covered.
CORD:
With 3 strands of brown, make a chain to meas about 40” long.
With 3 strands of brown, make a chain to meas about 40” long.
Then
make sl st in each ch st. Break off.
Finish
cord by sewing one ring to each end.
Place
cord around hat, tie ends into bow & tack in place as in photo.

With green, ch 62, turn.

ROW: Dc in 4th ch from hk, dc
in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in each dc. Break off.
3RD
ROW: Attach orange, ch 3, dc in each sc,
ch 1, turn.
4TH
ROW: Sc in each dc. Break off.
Rep
last 2 rows, changing colors after every sc row, working colors in following
order: Work with yellow, then
brown. These 4 colors constitute
pattern.
Cont
working thus, rep these 4 colors 2 more times.
Then
work with green, then orange, then yellow.
Break off.
Hereafter
work around this square as follows:
1ST RND: Attach brown to 5th sc of last row, ch 3 [to count as dc] dc in each sc across, making 3 dc in 2nd sc from end [thus inc 2 sts], 1 dc in last sc, 3 dc in end of same row along other side of work, * 2 dc under next dc, dc in next sc, rep from * across [work should lie perfectly flat, if not inc a few sts], working 3 dc in last dc, 1 dc at corner, 3 dc in next dc along other side of work, dc bet each dc across, work corner as before 7 cont thus around. complete 1 side of bag. Make other side

pieces, leaving open across one side & corner on both sides.
HANDLE
STRAPS [MAKE 2]:
With
orange, ch 150, turn.

RND: Sc in 2nd ch from hk
& in each st of foundation ch, then work sc in each sc along other side of
ch. Join & break off.
2ND
RND: Attach greern, & work sc in
each sc of prev rnd, inc at each end so that work lies flat. Join & break off.
Rep
2nd rnd using yellow, then brown.
Make
another strap same as this.
Cut
buckram to shape 7 size of bag, allowing for seams, & sew to bag along
edges.
Then
line with lining material.
Sew
straps to bag as in photo.
