Vintage 1915 Baby’s Jacket & Bonnet #B122 - Crochet
A clever needlewoman will quickly crochet this delightful,
jacket & cap in a shell pattern…
Season-spanning & perfect for many special occasions!
Materials:
JACKET:
4 ozs. BEEHIVE Shetland Floss;
CAP:
1 1/2 ozs. BEEHIVE Shetland Floss
#8 Crochet Hook
Lustre Thread
2 1/2 Yards Ribbon
GAUGE:
3 Patterns = 2” width; Triple Crochet [trc] = ½” length
3 Patterns = 2” width; Triple Crochet [trc] = ½” length
JACKET:
Working 2 Fronts & back in one piece, start at lower edge with 140
ch.
1ST ROW: Sk 3 ch, 3 trc in the next stitch, sk 3 ch, 1
dc in next, *3 ch, 3 trc in same st as that into which dc was worked, sk 3 ch,
1 dc in next, rep from * to end of row, turn.
(34 groups.)
2ND ROW: 3 Ch, 3 trc in dc of prev row below. *1 Dc in top of lp made by 3 ch in block
below, 3 ch, 3 trc in same lp, rep from * to end of row, finishing with 1 dc in
last lp, turn. Rep last row for 9” (21
rows).
armholes:
Work 4” (11 rows) on first 10 groups for first Front. Fasten off.
Work 4” (11 rows) on first 10 groups for first Front. Fasten off.
Start again where groups were left for Back & second Front, join up
wool & work 4” on next 14 groups.
Fasten off.
Join up wool again where groups were left
for Front & work 4” on last 10 groups.
Fasten off.
Sew tog 5 groups at each side of Back
& Fronts to form Shoulder seams.
Collar:
Ch
24.
Rep 1st row of Back once (making 5
groups).
Continue rep 2nd row, but inc
group at end of each row until 4” are worked.
Fasten off.
Sew Collar at neck, placing foundation row
along back of neck & letting shaped sides fall along neck edge of Fronts.
SLEEVES:
Work 11 groups around one of armholes, join at end of rnd by sl st to
top of 1st group.
Then turn & work 7” (16 rows) on these
groups, always joining & turning at end of each rnd. Fasten off.
Work second Sleeve like first.
EDGING:
With lustre thread work 1 dc into each st evenly all around edge of
Jacket, Collar, & Cuffs.
Add ribbons
at Front.
BONNET:
Start with 84 ch.
1ST ROW: Sk 3 ch, 3 trc in next st, sk 3 ch, 1 dc in
next, *3 ch, 3 trc in same st as that into which dc was worked, sk 3 ch, 1 dc
in next, rep from * to end of row, turn.
(34 groups.)
2ND ROW: 3 Ch, 3 trc in dc below, *1 dc in top of lp
made by 3 ch in block below, 3 ch, 3 trc in same lp, rep from * to end of row,
finishing with 1 dc in last lp, turn.
Rep 2nd Row until 10” are worked. (20 groups in each row.)
FINISHING:
Fold fabric in half & sew tog two halves of foundation ch to form
seam at back of Bonnet.
Turn back about
4” at front for fold-over. With lustre thread dc evenly around edge of
Bonnet. Fasten off & run in
end.
Add rosettes, made from ribbon, to each
side of Bonnet.
