1938 Cable “Kisses” Zippered Jacket #975
This little, waist length, zippered jacket charms with its
short sleeves & large, puffy, cable “kisses” design. Sure to become one of your season-spanning
wardrobe favorites!

GAUGE:
3 sts = 1”
4 rows = 1”

PATTERN STITCH:
Multiple 4 plus 2.

1ST ROW: * K 2, but when put yo needle as when
k, put it over twice instead of once, thus having 2 lps on needle for each k
st. P 2 * rep bet stars across row,
ending with k 2, put yo twice.
2ND ROW:
* P 2, let 1 lp drop from each st, k 2 * rep bet stars across row, end
with p 2, let extra lp drop.
** 3RD ROW:
K 2, put yo twice, p 2, * sl next 4 sts on extra needle or safety pin
& let it hang at back of work. K
next 2 sts on left needle, put yo twice, sl 2 p sts from pin onto left needle
& p, then sl 2 k sts from pin onto left needle & k them, putt yo twice,
thus crossing cable, p 2 *, rep bet
stars end row with k 2, put yo twice.
4TH ROW:
Same as 2nd row.
5TH ROW:
Same as 1st row.
Rep 2nd & 1st rows twice more,
then rep 2nd row once again.
11TH ROW:
* Cross cable [as on 3rd row] on 1st 6 sts, p 2 *,
rep bet stars across row, end with cross cable on last 6 sts.
12TH ROW:
Same as 2nd row.
13TH ROW:
Same as 1st row.
Rep 2nd & 1st rows twice more,
then rep 12th row once more.**
Rep rows bet double stars for patt st.
BACK:
Cast on 46 sts.
Cast on 46 sts.
Work 3” even in patt st [about 12 rows].
Start on next row, inc 1 st at both sides of every 8th
row 4 times [54 sts on needle].
Work 1 ¼” even [about 10 ½” long at underarm].
SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Bind off 2 sts beg next 4 rows.
Bind off 2 sts beg next 4 rows.
Start on next row, dec 1 st at both sides of every 3rd
row, 4 times.
Work 3” even [armhole about 6 ½” deep].
SLANT SHOULDERS:
Bind off 3 sts beg next 8 rows [12 sts bound off for each shoulder].
Bind off 3 sts beg next 8 rows [12 sts bound off for each shoulder].
Bind off rem 14 sts for neck.
RIGHT FRONT:
Cast on 24 sts.
Cast on 24 sts.
1ST ROW: [RIGHT SIDE]: * K 2, put yo twice, p 2 *, rep bet stars 5
more times.
2ND ROW:
[WRONG SIDE]: * K 2, p 2, let 1
lp drop from each st *, rep bet stars 5 more times.
3RD ROW:
K 2, putt yo twice, p 2, k 2, put yo twice, p 2, * then cross cable on
next 6 sts, as shown in patt st, p 2 *, rep bet stars once more.
From then on, work cable as shown in patt st.
On next “cross” row, work k 2, p 2, then cross cable on
next 6 sts.
The edge with k 2, p 2 even all the way up jacket [will be
front edge].
Work 2” even in patt st.
Start on next row, inc 1 st at underarm edged every 6th
row 5 times [29 sts on needle].
Work 1 ¼” even.
[About 10 ½” long at underarm.]
SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Beg at armhole edge, bind off 2 sts at beg of row, work back & rep, inc.
Beg at armhole edge, bind off 2 sts at beg of row, work back & rep, inc.
Then dec 1 st at armhole edge every 3rd row 4
times.
Work 3” even [armhole about 6 ½” deep].
SLANT SHOULDER & SHAPE NECK:
Bind off 3 sts at armhole edge, every other row 4 times, while shaping front edge for neck by binding off 2 sts twice, then dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 4 times. Bind off rem st.

Work left front to correspond, be careful to start patt
correctly, so that you will have k 2 & p 2 rib all the way up front edge,
& also be careful to shape correct edge for underarm.
SLEEVE:
Cast on 24 sts.
Cast on 24 sts.
Work 1 ½” even in stockinette st, p side is the right side
of work.
Next row, inc 1 st in every 4th st across row [6
incs – 30 sts on needle].
Then work in patt st, cross cable on 5th row after inc across, & have 1st
cross come on 1st 6 sts of row, that means you will have 4 crosses
across row, shape as follows:
Work ½” even.
Start on next row, inc 1 st at both sides of every other
row 5 times.
Work 1” even [about 6” long at underarm].
Bind off 2 sts, beg next 4 rows.
Start on next row, dec 1 st at both sides of every other
row twice, then every 4th row 4 times.
Bind off rem 20 sts, work 2 sts tog at both sides.
Work second sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING:
After pressing each piece separately, sew seams neatly.

Fit sleeves into armholes, holding in extra fullness
towards top of sleeves.
Make 1 row sc around front & neck edges.
To close, sew zipper all down front in matching color.
