Vintage 1935 Belted Blouse with Jabot #540

Quick & easy to crochet this charming blouse with the contrasting, lacy jabot…smart & stylish lines…season-spanning, wardrobe favorite…perfect for many occasions!

SIZE:  34” - 36”

MATERIALS: 
J & P Coats Mercerized Crochet, 20 balls,
or
Clark’s ONT Mercerized Crochet Size 10, 29 balls
Also 2 balls of Contrasting Color for Collar
#6 Steel Crochet Hook

STITCHES:

GAUGE: 
10 dc = 1”;     9 rows = 2”

BACK: 
Ch 184, turn.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 4th ch from hook [turning ch counts as 1 dc], dc in each st of ch [181 dc].  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  Dc in each of next 5 sts, * ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc [this forms sp].  Dc in each of next 11 sts.  Rep from * 11 more times, 1 sp, dc in each of next 5 sts, ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  Dc over dc, 2 dc over sps across.  Ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW:  Sk 1st dc & dc in each st across, dec 1 st at end of row.  Ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW:  * Dc in each of next 11 sts, sp, rep from * across, end with 11 dc, ch 3, turn. 

Rep 3rd & 4th rows 1 times.  These 7 rows form patt.

Cont work in patt until 7 decs have been made at each end, remember that there will be 1 dc less at beg of each sp row, or patt will not be even.

Work even for 14 rows, then inc 1 st at both ends on next row & every 3rd row 8 times.

Work even until piece meas 13”.

ARMHOLE: 
Sl st over 10 dc, ch 1, work to within 10 dc from other ends, ch 3, turn. 

Cont work, dec 1 st at both ends 3 times. 

Then work even until piece meas 6” from 1st row of armhole [27 rows, 57 dc across]. 

This brings work to shoulder.  Sl st over 6 sts, ch 1, work to within last 7 dc, sc in next, ch 1, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Sl st over 5 dc, work across to within last 6 dc, sc in next, ch 1, turn. 

Rep this last row 6 more times.  Break off.

FRONT: 
Ch 72.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 4th ch from hook & dc in each st of ch.  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  Dc in each of next 5 sts, * 1 sp, dc in each of next 11 sts.  Rep from * 3 more times, dc in each of next 3 sts, ch 3, turn. 

Cont work, dec at side seam, as in back, & make 1 inc at front side on every row for 11 rows, then 2 incs for 5 rows.

Work 18 rows [85 dc across].  Break off.

Work another piece to correspond.

On 19th row [a dc row], dec at side as usual, work to center front & join to other front, work across & make dec at end of row.

After completing 7th dec, work same as back up to armhole.

Shape armhole same, make 6 decs instead of 3 [151 dc across after last row of decs]. 

On 8th row from armhole, work over 76 dc in patt, ch 3, turn.

Work even 11 more rows.

20TH ROW:  Work to within last 12 sts from front, ch 3, turn.

Work 6 rows, dec 1 st at front on every row, working armhole even.

27TH ROW:  To shape shoulder, dec  1 st at front, work to within 6 dc from end, sc in next, ch 1, turn.

28TH ROW:  Sl st over 5 dc, work across, make 1 dec at front edge.  Ch 3, turn.

Rep these 2 rows 2 more times, then work 5 dc, sc, & break off.

Work other half of front to correspond.

SLEEVE: 
Ch 114.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 4th ch from hook & dc in each st of ch.  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  Dc in each of next 6 sts, sp, work across, end with 6 dc, ch 3, turn.

Work 11 more rows, inc 1 dc at both ends in 4th row, & in every 3rd row thereafter.

14TH ROW:  Sl st over 11 dc, work across to within 10 dc, ch 3, turn.

15TH ROW:  Dec 1 st at beg & end of row, omit turning ch for 2nd dec at end.  Ch 3, turn.

Rep this row until there are 19 rows from armhole.

Then work 4 more rows, make 3 decs at both ends.

Work last row in sl st, break off.

JABOT: 
Ch 111.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 9th ch from hook, * ch 5, sk 1 ch, dc in next.  Rep from * 23 more times, ch 5, dc in same place as last dc, ch 5, sk 1 ch, dc in next, make 24 more loops, ch 8, turn. 

2ND ROW:  * Dc in 3rd ch of loop below, ch 5.  Rep from * to center loop.  Ch 5, dc in same place, ch 5, dc in center of next loop.  Work 24 more loops, ch 8, turn.

Rep this row until there are 16 rows in all.  Break off. 

Attach thread at 1st row where work was started & finish 2 short sides & long side with dc in each st.

COLLAR & TABS: 
Ch 9, dc in 4th st from hook & dc in each of next 6 sts.  * Ch 3, turn, & work 2nd row of dc over dc.  Rep from * until there are 17”.

NEXT ROW:  * 2 Dc in next st, dc in next, rep from * across, ch 3, turn.

Work 1 row even, then 2 more rows, make incs as before [2 dc in 1 st, dc in next], ch 3, turn.

Work 10 rows of loops as in jabot, make 14 loops to row.

NEXT ROW:  Work to within last loop, omit ch-5 & work dc in center of last loop.  C h 3, turn. 

Rep this row until there are no more loops to work.  Break off. 

Attach thread at last row of dc & work around tab with dc in each ch. 

Finish other end of collar same, start with 1st row of incs.

BELT: 
Ch 19. 

Dc in 4th ch from hook & dc in each st of ch.  Ch 3, turn.

Work dc over dc until belt meas 28”. 

Sew 2 snappers at corners to fasten belt.

FINISHING: 
Place center of jabot at center front & sew it around slit in front & up around neck as far as it goes.

Sew collar around neck & fold tabs to cover slit in front to form part of jabot.

After blouse side seams are sewn, finish around bottom with 3 rows of sc.
