Vintage 1945 Two-Tone Conical Cap Hat #225
A delightful conical
cap…spiced with contrasting colors!
Materials:
Hiawatha Belastraw Art #35, 1 tube each of 2 colors
Hiawatha Belastraw Art #35, 1 tube each of 2 colors

Steel Crochet Hook, or #3 Bone Crochet Hook
CAP:
With
main color,
ch 36 [about 7”]. Join with sl st into
ring, careful not to twist.
1st
rnd: Sc around, inc 6 sts [42 sc]. Do not join, but mark beg of rnd [center back
of hat].
2nd
rnd: 2 Sc in 1st st, sc in each st
around inc 2 more sts.
3rd
rnd: sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next st
[thus inc in 2nd st of inc at center back of previous rnd], then
work sc around inc 2 more sts, [do not inc directly over previous incs].
4th
rnd: 2 Sc in 1st st of in at
center back of previous rnd, then work same as 3rd rnd.
Repeat
3rd & 4th rnds, thus inc 3 sts on each rnd, until hat
measures 22” around, then work even until hat is 6 ½” deep, or until all of
main color is used, ending at back. Sl
st in next st. Fasten off.
Finishing:
Work
edgings as follows around top & bottoms:
With
contrast & right side facing, starting at back, work sc in 2 sts, * ch 3,
sc in same st, sc in next 3 sts. Repeat
from * around. Join; fasten off.
For
band, make a 26” chain.
Work
as follows: Sc in 2nd ch from
hook, * ch 3, sl st in last sc, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * to end, work 5 sc in last
chain, work along other side in same way.
Join,
fasten off.
Sew
on as illustrated, making knot at back.
