Vintage 1945 Pasha’s Favorite Hat  #124


MATERIALS: 
Hiawatha Super Crepe Corde Art. 42, 1 tube each of two colors or
Hiawatha Super Twist Rayon Cord Art. 41. 1 tube each of two colors
Steel crochet hook No. 1.

HAT:
With contrasting color, ch 4.  Join with st st into ring.

1st Rnd:  Ch 3, 11 dc in ring [12 dc, counting turning chain as 1 dc].  Join to top of ch 3.  Turn.

2nd Rnd:  Ch 3, dc at base of ch 3, 2 dc in each st around [24 sts].  Join and turn.

3rd Rnd:  Ch 3, * 2 dc in next st, dc in next st.  Repeat from * around [36 sts].  Join and turn.

4th Rnd:  Ch 3, dc at base of ch 3, * dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st.  Repeat from * around [48 sts].  Join and turn.

Continue increasing 12 sts each round [do not increase directly over previous increases] until there are 6 rounds [72 sts].  Join; turn. 

Piece should measure about 5 ½ inches in diameter.

Fasten off contrasting color, join main color, work as follows:
1st Rnd:  Sc in each st around.  Join; do not turn.

2nd Rnd:  Work sc in back loop only of each st around.  Join; do not turn.

3rd Rnd:  Ch 3, work dc around, increasing in every 4th st [90 sts].  Join and turn.

Work even in dc’s, joining and turning at end of rounds, until main color measures 5 inches. 

Join; ch 1, work round of sc.  Join; fasten off.

CORDS: 
With contrasting color, ch 7.

1st Row:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across [6 sc].  Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row:  Sc in 1st sc, ch 30, sl st in each ch, sl st in last sc made, sc in next sc of 1st row [1st cord made], ch 40, work 2nd cord in same way, ch 50 for 3rd cord, ch 60 for 4th cord and ch 70 for 5th cord.  Finish last cord with sc in last sc of 1st row.  Fasten off, leaving end for sewing.


Attach thread to free end of shortest cord and work sc, then work sc in end of each cord, careful not to twist and to keep cords in proper sequence. 

Ch 1, turn, work sc in each sc.  Fasten off, leaving end for sewing.

Sew cords in place as illustrated in photo.

Vintage Vogue Casual Two-Colour Pullover Sweater #302

We like the vivid colour-scheme of this carefree pullover…
but you may prefer to use one solid colour.

Size:
Instructions are for a 32” bust. 
Changes for 34” & 36” sizes are given in brackets.

Materials: 
6 [6,7] oz of Penguin Alpin 3-ply wool in red [R]
& 5 [5,6] oz in white [W]
1 Pair each of Knitting Needles #13 & #11

Measurements: 
To fit a 32” [34”, 36”] bust:  actual meas:  35” [37“, 39“].
Length:  19” [19 ¾”, 20 ½”].

Tension: 
8 sts & 10 rows = 1”

Stitch: 
Entire pullover is in stockinet st..

Back: 
With #13 needles & W cast on 70 [74, 78], drop W, join R, cast on 70 [74, 78].

1st row:  K 70 [74, 78] R, k 70 [74, 78] W. 

[Note:  Always twist wools tog when changing colours to prevent holes.]

2nd row:  P 70 [74, 78] W, p 70 [74, 78] R. 

Rep these 2 rows. 

Work 2”, end with a k row. 

K next row to mark hemline. 

Change to #11 needles. 

Work until back meas 11 [11 ½”, 12”] from hemline, end with a p row.

Shape Sleeves: 
Cast on at beg of next & following rows 2 sts 12 times & 84 twice.  332 [340, 348] sts. 

Work 12 rows. 

Inc 1 each end of next & every 12th row 4 times.  340 [348, 356] sts. 

Work until sleeve edges meas 5 ¼” [5 ½”, 5 ¾”], end with p row **.

Shape Upper Sleeves, Shoulders & Neck: 
Cast off 12 at beg of next 10 rows.

11th row:  Cast off 12, k 66 [69, 72] incl st already on needle, cast off 64 [66,68], k to end.

12th row:  Cast off 12, p to neck.  Finish this side first.

** 13th row:  Cast off 2, k to end.

14th row:  Cast off 12, p to end. 

Rep last 2 rows once more.

17th row:  Cast off 2, k to end.

18th row:  Cast off 12 [13, 14], p to end. 

Rep last 2 rows once more.

21st row:  K.  Cast off rem 10 [11, 12] sts. 

Join wool to rem sts & work from ** read p for k & k for p.

Front: 
With #13 needles & R cast on 90 [94, 98]. 

Work 2”, end with k row. 

K next row to mark hemline. 

Change to #11 needles. 

Work 2” end with p row. 

Leave sts on spare needle. 

With #13 needles & W cast on 50 [54, 58]. 

Work 2”, end with k row. 

K next row to mark turning line. 

Change to #11 needles. 

Work 2”, end with p row.

Next row:  K 50 [54, 58] W, drop W, pick up R & k 90 [94, 98] sts of R piece.  Now work as for Back to **.

Shape Upper Sleeves, Shoulders & Neck: 
1st row:  Cast off 12, k 138 [141, 144] incl st already on needle, cast off 40 [42, 44], k to end.

2nd row:  Cast off 12, p to neck.  Finish this side first.

** 3rd row:  Cast off 4, k to end.

4th row:  Cast off 12, p to end. 

Rep last 2 rows once more.

7th row:  Cast off 3, k to end.

8th row:  Cast off 12, p to end. 

Rep last 2 rows once more.

11th row:  Cast off 2, k to end.

12th row:  Cast off 12, p to end. 

Rep last 2 rows once more.

15th row:  K 2 tog, k to end.

16th row:  Cast off 12, p to end.

17th row:  K 2 tog, k to end. 

Now cast off at shoulder 12 [13, 14] sts twice & 10 [11, 12] once. 

Join wool to rem sts & work from ** reading k for p & p for k.

Sleeve Facings: 
With #13 needles & R cast on 30. 

Work 10 ½” [11”, 12”].  Cast off. 

Work second piece in W. 

Neck Facing: 
With #13 needles & W cast on 10. 

Work until facing is long enough to fit round W part of neck when slightly stretched. 

Change to R & cont until facing will fit R part.  Cast off.

To Make Up: 
Sew upper sleeve & shoulder seams, leaving 3 ¼” open at sleeve edges. 

Sew side & sleeve seams. 

Pin sleeve facings to sleeves, right sides tog, back-stitch finely, then turn to wrong side & slip-stitch along edges. 

Sew on neck facing in same way. 

Turn up & sew hem in same way, leaving 2” slit in front. 

Press well.

HAT:
NOTE:  Hat is worked from wrong side.
CROWN:
1ST RND:  Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk.  Do not join, but mark beg of rnd.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each st around.

3RD RND:  Same as 2nd rnd [24 sts].

4TH RND:  * Sc in next st, tr in next st.  Rep from * around.

5TH RND:  * 2 Sc in next sc, ch 1, sk next tr.  Rep from * around.

6TH RND:  [Wrong Side] * Sc in next 2 sc, yo, from right side of work insert hk from right to left behind next tr on prev row & draw lp thru, complete dc as usual –dc made around tr – sk ch-1.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn. [36 sts]

7TH RND:  * 2 Sc in next sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, sk next dc.  Rep from * around.

8TH RND:  * Sc in next 3 sc, dc around dc of prev rnd, sk ch-1.  Rep from * around, ending with dc [48 sts].

9TH RND:  Sc in each sc, & ch 1 over each dc around, inc 1 st in center of each sc section [12 incs]

10TH RND:  * Sc in next 4 sc, dc around dc of prev rnd, sk ch-1.  Rep from * around, ending with dc.

11TH & 12TH RNDS:  Rep 9th & 10th rnds.

Without inc, work 2 more rnds as before.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

NEXT RND:  From right side of hat, thru back lps only, work sc in each sc & ch 1 over each dc around.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

Work side of Crown as follows:
1ST RND:  * Sc in each sc, tr around next dc of prev patt rnd, sk ch-1.  Rep from * around.

2ND RND:  * Sc in each sc, ch 1, sk next tr.  Rep from * around.

Cont in patt [no incs] for 1”.

Inc 6 sts evenly around, work 1” more in patt, inc 6 sts evenly around once more.

Work ½” in patt, ending with patt row [84 sts].  Sl st in next st. 

Mark center back.

BRIM:
1ST RND:  Thru back lps only, work sc in each sc & in each dc in rnd. 

Mark center front.

2ND RND:  Thru both lps, work * sc in 3 sc, in next sc work sc, tr & sc, work sc in next 3 sc, work dc around dc of prev rnd.  Rep from * around [36 sts inc – 12 new stripes started].

3RD RND:  1ST SHORT ROW:  * Sc in 4 sc, ch 1, sk next tr, sc in 4 sc, ch 1, sk next dc.  Rep from * to 4 stripes beyond center front.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

2ND SHORT ROW:  Work in stripe patt [no incs] across 8 stripes.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

3RD SHORT ROW:  Same as 1st short row across 12 stripes.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

4TH SHORT ROW:  Same as 2nd short row across 16 stripes.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

5TH SHORT ROW:  Same as 1st short row across 20 stripes.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

4TH RND:  Work in stripe patt completely around 24 stripes, inc 1 st in each sc section.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

Work 5 more rnds as before [no incs].  Sl st in next st.  Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Turn hat top down on table & brush inside with millinery sizing.

Pull into proper shape & allow to dry.

If necessary, brush with millinery sizing 2nd time, then adjust brim to most becoming angle.

Sew on Feather.

BAG:
Starting at top of 1 side, make 16” chain.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each ch across until row meas about 14 ½” [number of sts must be multiple of 3 plus 2].  Ch 1, turn.  Cut off rem chain.

2ND ROW:  * Sc in next 2 sts, tr in next st.  Rep from * across, ending with 2 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  * Sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk next st.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

4TH ROW:  [WRONG SIDE] * Sc in next 2 sc, yo, from right wide of work insert hk from right to left behind next tr on prev row & draw lp thru, complete dc as usual – dc made around tr – sk ch-1.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

5TH ROW:  [RIGHT SIDE]  Same as 3rd row.  Ch 1, turn.

6TH ROW:  * Sc in next 2 sc, dc around next dc on row below, sk ch-1.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep last 2 rows 7 times, ending with sc row.  Ch 1, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Sc in each sc & in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.

This completes roll at top of bag.

Work body of  bag as follows:
1ST ROW:  * Sc in next 3 sts, tr in next st.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each sc 7 ch 1 over each tr across.  Ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  * Sc in next 3 sc, dc around next tr on row below, sk ch-1.  Rep from * across.  Ch 2, turn.

4TH ROW:  Sc in each sc & ch 1 over each dc across.  Ch 1, turn.

5TH ROW:  * Sc in next 3 sts, dc around next dc on row below, sk ch-1.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep last 2 rows until body of bag meas 16”, ending with sc row.

NEXT ROW:  Sc in each st & in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn. 

FOLLOWING ROW:  * Sc in next 2 sts, tr in next st.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

Work in patt for roll at 2nd side of bag until roll meas same as 1st roll, ending with sc row.  Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Fold piece in half & sew side seams of body of bag.

Insert lining & sew all seams & along top of lining.

Roll top piece to right side of bag on each side & sew in place.

Make 3” chain & attach zipper pull to slide fastener [zipper] tab.

MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
[Before joining finished pattern pieces]

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab [if desired].

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
