Vintage Starlight Motif Bedspread

MATERIALS:
SIZE: SINGLE
J & P Coats Bedspread Cotton, 14 balls
SIZE: DOUBLE
J & P Coats Bedspread Cotton, 18 balls
1 Milwards Steel Crochet Hook #6 or #7


GAUGE:

motif meas 4½”
single size: 72” x 108”, make 16 x 24 motifs 
double size: 90” x 108”, make 20 x 24 motifs


BLANKET:
1ST MOTIF:
Start at center, ch 6, join with sl st. 


1ST RND: Ch 5 [count as DC & ch-2], * DC in ring, ch 2. Rep from * 6 more times, join to 3rd st of ch-5 = 8 sps. 

2ND RND: Ch 2 [count as HDC], * 3 HDC in next sp, HDC in next DC. Rep from * around, end with 3 HDC in last sp, join. 

3RD RND: Ch 2, HDC in each st around, pick up only back 2 lps of each st, join. 

4TH RND: Ch 6 [count as DC & ch-3], * sk 1 st, DC in back 2 lps of next st, ch 3. Rep from * around, join to 3rd st of ch-6 = 16 sps. 

5TH RND: Ch 2, * 3 HDC in next sp, HDC in next DC. Rep from * around, join. 

6TH RND: * Ch 7, sk 3 sts, SC in back 2 lps of next st. Rep from * around = 16 lps. 

7TH RND: Sl st in each of 1st 3 sts of next lp, SC in next st, * ch 10, SC in center st of next lp, 3 SC in same lp, 3 SC in next lp, SC in center st of same lp. Rep from * around, end with 3 SC in 1st lp [where 1st 3 sl sts were made], sl st in next SC. 

8TH RND: * In next ch-10 lp make 6 SC, ch 5 & 6 SC, ch 4. Rep from * around, sl st in 1st SC made. 


9TH RND: Ch 2, * HDC in next 2 SC, always pick up only back lp of each SC, DC in next 3 SC, DC in next 2 ch, 2 DC in next ch, DC in next 2 ch, DC in next 3 SC, HDC in next 3 SC, ch 1, HDC in next SC. Rep from * around, join to 2nd st of ch-2 1st made. 


10TH RND: Sl st in next st, * SC in next st, always pick up only back lp of each st, [ch 3, sk 1 st, SC in next st] 3 times, ch 3, SC in next st, [ch 3, sk 1 st, SC in next st] 3 times, ch 3, SC in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, sk 2 sts. Rep from * around, end with sl st in 1st SC made. Fasten off. 



This compls 1 motif.

2ND MOTIF:
Work 1st 9 rnds as for 1st motif. 


10TH RND: Sl st in next st, * SC in next st, always pick up only back lp of each st, [ch 3, sk 1 st, SC in next st] 3 times, ch 1, SC in lp at tip of any point on 1st motif, ch 1, SC in next st on motif in work, [ch 3, sk 1 st, SC in next st] 3 times, ch 3, SC in next sp, ch 3, sk 2 sts. Rep from * once more, compl rnd as for 1st motif.


Make needed number of motifs, join them as 2nd was joined to 1st.

FILL-IN LACE:
Attach thread to 2nd lp from join, ch 4, make 2 TRC in same place, hold back on hk last lp of each TRC, YO & draw thru all lps on hk [cluster]. * Ch 4, 2 TRC in tip of cluster just compl, hold back on hk last lp of each TRC, & compl cluster as before, make 3 TRC in center side lp of next point & compl as for prev cluster. Rep from * around, join last cluster to tip of 1st cluster made. Fasten off. 


Fill in all sps bet join in this way.
